Asian Games 2026 Day 4: India Faces Another Packed Day of Action Across 20+ Sports

India faces another packed day of competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on Wednesday, September 23, with athletes competing across shooting, weightlifting, badminton, hockey, kabaddi, wushu, boxing, rowing, canoeing, fencing, swimming, squash, table tennis and equestrian sports.

The Day 4 programme begins as early as 5:30 AM IST, with India’s men’s regu team taking on the Philippines in Sepak Takraw and Jay Meena facing the Philippines in the men’s singles quarterfinal in soft tennis.

Several medal and qualification events will dominate the schedule, while the Indian men’s badminton team will face China in the semifinal at 11:30 AM.

Shooting once again occupies a major portion of India’s schedule. At 6:15 AM, Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, Suruchi Singh and Inder Singh are listed for the 10m Air Pistol Women’s Individual Qualification and Team Final.

The skeet competitions also begin at 6:30 AM. Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmed Khan compete in the men’s skeet individual qualification and team final on Day 3 of qualification. Maheshwari Chauhan, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Raiza Dhillon are scheduled in the women’s skeet individual qualification and team final.

Later, the women’s 10m air pistol individual final is scheduled for 9:00 AM, subject to qualification, while the skeet women’s individual final is listed for 10:50 AM, subject to qualification. The men’s skeet individual final is scheduled for 12:30 PM, subject to qualification.

Mirabai Chanu Returns to Asian Games Action

One of the biggest Indian names on the Day 4 schedule is Mirabai Chanu Saikhom, who competes in the women’s 49kg Group A weightlifting event at 10:00 AM IST. She will be among the athletes attracting considerable attention as India continues its campaign in a sport that has historically produced Asian Games medals for the country.

Another Indian weightlifter, Gyaneshwari Yadav, is scheduled to compete in the women’s 53kg Group A event at 1:30 PM.

The Indian men’s badminton team has a major semifinal appointment at 11:30 AM IST, when it takes on China. India entered the semifinal after securing a medal with a 3-0 victory over Japan in the quarterfinals. The contest against China will determine whether India progresses to the gold-medal match.

The individual badminton programme also features Veer Chotrani, who is scheduled to face Sri Lanka in the men’s singles Round of 32 at 12:00 PM.

Both Indian kabaddi teams will also be competing. The Indian women’s kabaddi team faces Iran at 8:30 AM, while the men’s team takes on Bangladesh at 9:45 AM.

The men enter the contest after dominant victories over Japan and South Korea. Their 63-31 win over South Korea on Day 3 continued their strong start to the tournament. Indian hockey also features prominently, with the women’s team facing Thailand in Pool B at 11:30 AM.

Roshibina Devi Eyes Wushu Final

At 3:00 PM, wushu star Roshibina Devi takes on Indonesia in the women’s 60kg semifinal. Roshibina has already secured a medal for India and will now compete for a place in the gold-medal contest.

Her semifinal is one of the final events listed in the supplied Day 4 schedule and could provide another important moment for India's wushu campaign.

Rowing, Canoeing, Fencing and Swimming

The morning will also feature extensive action in rowing and canoeing. India’s rowing contingent competes in the men’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, men’s pair, women’s four, lightweight men’s single sculls, lightweight men’s double sculls, women’s quadruple sculls and men’s four.

Canoeing includes the men’s K-4 500m heats, women’s canoe single 200m heats, women’s kayak double 500m heats, men’s kayak double 500m heats and women’s canoe double 500m heats. Fencing sees Mina Devi Naorem and Joys Asistha Stalin in the women’s foil individual competition, while Karan Singh and Gisho Nidhi compete in the men’s sabre individual event.

Swimming features Sajan Prakash and Benedict Beniston in the men’s 100m butterfly, while Vedant Madhavan and Sunil Aneesh compete in the men’s 200m freestyle.

Boxer Ankush will face Bahrain in the men’s 80kg Round of 16 at 10:15 AM, while squash players Abhay Singh and Tanvi Khanna also have Round of 32 matches.

With multiple qualification rounds, team finals and knockout contests spread across the day, September 23 promises another extensive day of Indian participation at the Asian Games.
