India’s Sheetal Devi delivered a remarkable campaign at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, winning two gold medals and one silver in women’s compound archery and mixed-team competition.

The Indian para-archer capped her individual campaign on Thursday by successfully defending her women’s compound individual title, defeating Singapore’s Nur Syahidah Alim 142-139 after recovering from a four-point deficit. The 18-year-old’s latest triumph followed gold in the compound mixed-team event alongside Toman Kumar and silver in the women’s compound doubles with Payal Nag. Her three-medal haul, combined with an equal world-record performance in the individual qualification round, underlined her consistency across different formats of the competition.

For Sheetal, the championship was not simply about collecting medals. It was a demonstration of her ability to maintain precision across qualification, team competition and high-pressure individual knockouts.

Sheetal began her campaign with a score of 704 in the individual qualification round, equalling the world record according to the supplied results. The performance established her as one of the leading contenders in the women’s compound individual event and provided a strong foundation for the knockout rounds.

Qualification scores offer an early indication of an archer’s form, but converting that performance into a title requires consistency under a different kind of pressure. Sheetal managed that transition effectively, progressing through the individual competition with knockout scores of 149, 147, 145 and 142 out of a possible 150.

The sequence showed her ability to produce high scores across successive rounds before delivering the result that mattered most in the final. Although her score decreased through the listed knockout matches, she retained enough control to complete her campaign with the gold medal.

Her qualification performance also reinforced her standing as one of India’s most dependable athletes in para archery, a discipline in which precision and repeatability are central to success.

Sheetal Overcomes Four-Point Deficit to Retain Individual Crown

The women’s compound individual final against Singapore’s Nur Syahidah Alim provided the defining moment of Sheetal’s campaign. Alim put the Indian under pressure, opening up a four-point advantage. Sheetal responded with a comeback that brought her back into contention and ultimately secured a 142-139 victory.

The result allowed Sheetal to defend the title she had won at the previous Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. It also gave her a second gold medal of the 2026 edition after her success in the mixed-team event.

Winning a final after falling behind requires an archer to maintain technical discipline while managing the pressure created by the scoreboard. Sheetal’s recovery demonstrated that she could remain competitive even when an opponent established an early advantage.

Alim finished with the silver medal, while China’s Xu Xueqing took bronze. The victory added another major achievement to Sheetal’s growing record and confirmed her ability to deliver when the individual title was on the line.

Sheetal’s first gold of the championship came in the compound mixed-team event, where she partnered Toman Kumar. The Indian pair defeated Indonesia’s Teodora Audi A. Ferelly and Ken Swagumilang 151-148 in the final to secure the title. The three-point winning margin reflected a closely contested match in which India produced the higher score to finish on top.

The victory was particularly significant because it continued Sheetal’s success in the mixed-team format. She had won gold at the previous edition alongside Rakesh Kumar and now defended the title with a different partner.

For Toman, the victory also represented a major contribution to India’s para-archery campaign. The partnership combined their efforts to secure the country’s first gold medal in para archery at the 2026 Asian Para Games, according to the supplied event information.

The mixed-team result demonstrated Sheetal’s versatility beyond the individual event. Delivering in a team final requires athletes to contribute under shared pressure, with every arrow influencing the combined score.

Women’s Doubles Silver Completes Three-Medal Haul

Sheetal’s third medal came in the women’s compound doubles event, where she teamed up with Payal Nag to win silver. The result completed a three-medal campaign comprising gold in the women’s compound individual event, gold in the compound mixed team and silver in the women’s compound doubles.

Winning medals across all three events highlighted the breadth of Sheetal’s contribution. Rather than relying on a single standout performance, she remained competitive across individual and team formats throughout the championship.

Her record-equalling qualification score, followed by a series of strong knockout performances, provided the foundation for that achievement. The individual final then supplied the dramatic finish, with Sheetal overturning a four-point deficit to secure the title.

Sheetal’s performance in Aichi-Nagoya strengthens her position among India’s leading para-archers. At just 18, she has already demonstrated an ability to defend major titles and contribute to successful team combinations.

Her campaign also highlights the importance of consistency in compound archery. A record-equalling qualification score can establish momentum, but medals are ultimately decided by performance in the knockout stages. Sheetal delivered in both settings, producing a 704 qualification score before completing her individual campaign with gold.

Two gold medals and one silver represent a substantial return from three events. More importantly, her comeback in the individual final showed that she could respond to pressure rather than allow an early deficit to determine the outcome.

For India, Sheetal’s achievements provide a major highlight of the para-archery competition at the Asian Para Games 2026. Her performance combined record-equalling qualification, successful title defence and mixed-team success, making her one of the standout Indian athletes of the championship.

With three medals secured in Aichi-Nagoya, Sheetal Devi has once again demonstrated why she remains a central figure in India’s para-archery programme.
