East Bengal host Oman's Al-Seeb at Salt Lake Stadium in a crucial AFC Champions League Two Group D clash, with both teams seeking their first win.

East Bengal FC return to the Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday facing a crucial encounter against Oman's Al-Seeb Club in the AFC Champions League Two group stage.

With neither side having registered a victory in the competition so far, the contest carries significant importance for both teams as they look to keep their Round of 16 qualification hopes alive. Antonio Lopez Habas' side currently occupy third place in Group D with two points from three matches, having collected both points through away draws. Al-Seeb are at the bottom of the standings with one point. With only the top two teams advancing to the knockout stage, another dropped opportunity could leave either side with a difficult path to qualification.

For East Bengal, the challenge is clear: build on the defensive resilience displayed in Oman and convert their attacking opportunities into goals in front of their home supporters.

The two teams met in Oman on October 27, with the reverse fixture ending in a goalless draw. East Bengal showed defensive discipline throughout the contest, with goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa playing a particularly important role.

Lachenpa produced several important saves to prevent Al-Seeb from finding the breakthrough. East Bengal also threatened through counter-attacks but could not make the most of the promising situations they created.

That inability to convert opportunities remains an important area for Habas to address ahead of Tuesday's fixture. The home side will need greater precision in the final third, particularly when quick transitions offer the opportunity to catch Al-Seeb's defence out of position.

The visitors have demonstrated defensive discipline, and East Bengal cannot afford to rely solely on possession or territorial pressure. Creating clear-cut chances and finishing them efficiently could prove decisive in a match where the margin for error is limited.

Salt Lake crowd offers an opportunity

Playing at the Salt Lake Stadium gives East Bengal an opportunity to draw energy from their passionate home support. The atmosphere could be an important factor as the team attempts to secure its first win of the group stage.

However, the home advantage will also bring expectations. East Bengal will be keen to respond positively after suffering a narrow 2-3 defeat against Iraq's Al-Shorta in their previous home fixture in the competition.

That result exposed defensive vulnerabilities which the team will need to address against Al-Seeb. While the goalless draw in Oman demonstrated their ability to remain organised under pressure, Tuesday's match will demand a balance between defensive security and attacking ambition.

East Bengal cannot afford to become overly cautious given their position in the group. At the same time, committing too many players forward could leave spaces for Al-Seeb to exploit on the counter.

Anwar Ali is expected to play a central role in organising East Bengal's defensive structure. His positioning and ability to coordinate the backline will be important against an Al-Seeb attack that will be looking to capitalise on any defensive uncertainty.

In midfield, Dani Ramírez could be crucial in controlling the tempo and connecting the defensive and attacking phases. His ability to link play will matter particularly when East Bengal look to move forward quickly after regaining possession.

The wide areas could offer another route to goal. Bipin Singh, David Lalhlansanga and Edmund Lalrindika provide pace and directness, qualities that could trouble Al-Seeb if East Bengal can isolate them against defenders.

Stretching the opposition's defensive shape and creating space in central areas will be important. East Bengal need their wide players to turn attacking transitions into meaningful opportunities rather than allowing promising moves to break down before reaching the penalty area.

Al-Seeb carry their own attacking threat

Despite sitting at the bottom of Group D, Al-Seeb cannot be taken lightly. The Omani side showed in the reverse fixture that it can remain defensively organised and frustrate East Bengal. Abdulaziz Al-Muqbali and Abdulmageed Al Balushi are expected to provide the main attacking threat for the visitors. East Bengal's defensive unit will need to remain alert to their movement and ensure that the spaces behind the backline are protected.

The visitors will also understand the importance of the fixture. A victory would offer them an opportunity to revive their campaign, while another defeat would make their qualification prospects considerably more difficult.

With East Bengal on two points and Al-Seeb on one, Tuesday's result could have a significant bearing on the group's qualification picture. Neither team has the luxury of treating this as an ordinary group-stage fixture.

For Habas, the priority will be to retain the defensive discipline shown in Oman while improving the team's efficiency in the attacking third. East Bengal have already demonstrated that they can contain Al-Seeb; the next step is to turn that performance into a winning result.

The Salt Lake Stadium crowd will expect a response, and East Bengal have the opportunity to use home advantage to take a decisive step towards the Round of 16.

After three matches without a victory, the task is straightforward, even if the execution will be anything but: defend with discipline, attack with greater purpose and secure the three points.
