India Men’s Hockey Team Thrash Indonesia 13-1 to Continue Winning Start at Asian Games 2026

India’s men’s hockey team continued its strong start to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 with a commanding 13-1 victory over Indonesia.

India controlled the contest from the opening quarter, repeatedly breaking through Indonesia’s defensive structure and creating opportunities inside the circle. The result followed an attacking performance in which India produced goals through a combination of field play, penalty corners, quick passing moves and close-range finishes. While Indonesia managed to score once after the interval, India responded immediately and continued to extend its advantage until the final whistle.

The victory gives India another strong result in its Asian Games campaign, with Sri Lanka next on the schedule.

India wasted little time establishing control. Shilanand Lakra opened the scoring in the fifth minute, giving India a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. The early goal settled India into the contest and allowed the team to increase the pressure on Indonesia's defence. India soon doubled its advantage through Abhishek, who finished from close range after a well-constructed move down the right. Dilpreet Singh created the opportunity with a cut-back, allowing Abhishek to finish into an open goal.

Dilpreet then got on the scoresheet himself to make it 3-0. The move began with Sumit delivering the ball into the circle towards Abhishek, who squared it across goal. Dilpreet was in the right position to tap the ball home. India continued to find space in the Indonesian defence.

Dilpreet quickly became one of the central figures in India's attacking performance. His second goal came after Rajinder Singh delivered a ball from the left. Dilpreet was positioned at the far post and finished into an empty net. Rajinder then added a goal of his own to make it 5-0. The move once again demonstrated India's ability to attack through the flanks. Rajinder had initiated the attack with a run into the circle before setting up Dilpreet. When the initial effort was saved, Rajinder remained alert to tap home the rebound.

India's sixth goal followed another familiar attacking pattern. Hardik Singh found Sukhjeet on the left, with Sukhjeet then delivering the ball across to Mandeep Singh, who deflected it past the goalkeeper.

India led 6-0 before captain Harmanpreet Singh finally entered the scoresheet. The skipper converted a penalty corner with a powerful strike into the bottom corner to make it 7-0.

Indonesia gets one back, India responds

Indonesia's best moment of the match came after the interval when they managed to score their first goal. The goal briefly reduced India's momentum, but the response was immediate. Shilanand Lakra scored his second of the match, sweeping the ball home from close range following good work by Abhishek inside the circle.

The score moved to 8-1, with India once again firmly in control. India then produced another wave of attacks. Dilpreet completed his hat-trick after an excellent attacking move involving Jarmanpreet Singh and Sukhjeet. Jarmanpreet's pass from deep found Sukhjeet, who worked his way past defenders before getting a shot away.

The goalkeeper saved the initial effort, but Dilpreet was once again in the right position to tap home the rebound. His three goals all came from extremely close range, highlighting his positioning and ability to anticipate rebounds.

India continued to attack even with a substantial lead. Sukhjeet Singh scored India's 10th goal after Dilpreet delivered a low cross from the right. Sukhjeet's initial effort was saved, but he reacted quickly to put away the rebound. The Indian attack then produced one of the hardest strikes of the match.

Jugraj Singh unleashed a powerful effort to make it 11-1. The goal added another dimension to India's scoring, with the team demonstrating that it could find the net through both close-range combinations and powerful strikes from distance.

Sukhjeet then scored his second of the match.

A move down the right saw the Indian winger reach the baseline before cutting the ball back into the circle. Sukhjeet was perfectly positioned in the middle and swept the ball into the net to make it 12-1.

India's final goal came from another powerful attack involving captain Harmanpreet Singh. Harmanpreet produced a fierce low ball into the circle from around halfway. Abhishek and Dilpreet appeared to get touches before the ball found its way into the net, with the final touch determining the official scorer.

That took India to 13 goals, completing a comprehensive victory. The final scoreline read India 13-1 Indonesia.

The result demonstrated the depth of India's attacking options. Shilanand Lakra scored twice, Dilpreet Singh completed a hat-trick, Sukhjeet Singh contributed two goals, while Harmanpreet, Jugraj, Rajinder, Mandeep and Abhishek also featured among the scorers. India repeatedly used width to create opportunities, particularly through the right flank and baseline cut-backs. The team's ability to attack rebounds was another prominent feature, with several goals coming after the Indonesian goalkeeper had initially saved an effort.

The only blemish was Indonesia's goal, which prevented India from recording another clean sheet. Nevertheless, the 13-1 victory keeps India's campaign moving in emphatic fashion.

With Sri Lanka next, India's men will now look to carry the attacking momentum into their next Asian Games fixture.

For Craig Fulton's side, the objective remains clear: continue building momentum, tighten the defensive details and maintain the high attacking intensity that produced 13 goals against Indonesia.
