Kerala Blasters FC signed off their Indian Super League 2025-26 campaign with an entertaining 2-1 victory over FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Monday.

Goals from Kévin Yoke and Fallou Ndiaye helped the Blasters extend their unbeaten run to six matches, while Muhammed Nemil scored FC Goa’s only goal in an evenly fought contest. Although neither side remained in title contention heading into the fixture, the game still carried importance for momentum, confidence, and finishing positions in a tightly packed mid-table battle.

The win ensured Kerala Blasters ended the season in eighth place with 17 points from 13 matches, while FC Goa concluded their campaign seventh with 20 points.

The match began with Kerala Blasters showing early attacking intent through Víctor Bertomeu, who won a dangerous free-kick in the opening stages. However, FC Goa gradually settled into control and looked the more composed side during the first half. Their midfield rotations and ball progression allowed them to dominate possession for extended periods, with Dejan Dražić and Ronney Willson Kharbudon both creating dangerous moments in transition.

Muhammed Nemil, who has quietly developed into one of Goa’s most influential attacking players this season, also tested Arsh Shaikh from distance as the visitors searched for an early breakthrough. Despite Goa’s territorial control, Kerala Blasters produced the clearer opportunities.

Vibin Mohanan forced a strong save from Bob Jackson midway through the half, while repeated set-piece situations kept the Goa defence under pressure. Pol Moreno, however, remained solid at the heart of the visitors’ backline and dealt effectively with several aerial deliveries into the box.

Nihal Sudeesh also came close late in the half for Kerala, while Udanta Singh’s header at the opposite end required an excellent reaction save from Arsh Shaikh. The goalless scoreline at halftime reflected a competitive opening 45 minutes where Goa controlled possession but Kerala created more direct attacking danger.

The second half began with far greater urgency from the hosts, and Kerala Blasters found the breakthrough almost immediately. In the 48th minute, Kévin Yoke delivered one of the best goals of Kerala’s season. Picking up possession outside the penalty area, the midfielder unleashed a powerful long-range strike that flew into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Bob Jackson with absolutely no chance.

The goal transformed the atmosphere inside the stadium and shifted momentum firmly toward the home side. Yoke’s performance throughout the evening reflected the qualities Kerala Blasters have increasingly relied on during the latter half of the campaign physicality, directness, and attacking drive from midfield.

FC Goa responded positively after conceding and gradually regained control in midfield. Their equaliser arrived in the 62nd minute following a well-worked attacking move. Brison Fernandes delivered a precise low cross into the box, and Muhammed Nemil timed his run perfectly before finishing clinically from close range.

It was another important contribution from Nemil, who has consistently been among Goa’s most effective attacking players this season despite the team’s inconsistent campaign overall. The equaliser also highlighted one of Goa’s key strengths under pressure their ability to remain patient in possession and create chances through structured buildup play.

Following Goa’s equaliser, the game opened up significantly with both sides searching for a winner. Yoke continued to drive Kerala forward with aggressive runs through midfield, while Dražić and Udanta Singh attempted efforts from distance for the visitors. Ultimately, the decisive moment arrived from a set-piece in the 81st minute.

Francisco Feuillassier delivered a dangerous corner into the box, and defender Fallou Ndiaye reacted quickest to guide the ball into the bottom corner and restore Kerala Blasters’ lead.

The goal exposed Goa’s vulnerability in defensive organisation during set-piece situations an issue that repeatedly hurt them across the season.

The closing stages saw FC Goa push bodies forward desperately in search of another equaliser. However, Kerala Blasters defended with far greater discipline than earlier in the campaign. The backline remained compact, blocked multiple late attempts, and managed the final minutes intelligently to secure all three points.

For Kerala Blasters, the result continues a strong late-season recovery. Although they ultimately fell short of playoff contention, the unbeaten six-match run provides a far more encouraging finish after a turbulent middle phase of the campaign. The emergence of players like Yoke, Vibin Mohanan, and Nihal Sudeesh also offers optimism heading into next season.

For FC Goa, the defeat ends an inconsistent ISL season that never fully found rhythm despite moments of strong football. Goa showed flashes of quality throughout the year, particularly in midfield combinations and attacking transitions, but defensive lapses and inconsistency in crucial moments prevented them from mounting a serious challenge higher up the table.

Kerala Blasters, meanwhile, will feel they finished the season showing clearer identity and greater balance compared to earlier months.

And in front of their home supporters in Kochi, they ensured their campaign ended with something positive a hard-fought victory against one of the league’s technically strongest sides.
