India's Tanvi Khanna won the HCL-SRFI PSA Challenger Tour Mumbai 2026 after a remarkable comeback against Egypt's Farida Walid. Malaysia's Mohammad Syafiq Kamal claimed the men's title in another thrilling final.

India's Tanvi Khanna produced a remarkable comeback to capture the women's title at the HCL-SRFI PSA Challenger Tour Mumbai 2026, while Malaysia's Mohammad Syafiq Kamal fought back from two games down to clinch the men's crown in a pair of thrilling finals at the Juhu Gymkhana Club on Friday.

The five-day tournament, organised by the HCL Group in partnership with the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), featured 48 professional players from 15 countries and concluded with two memorable championship matches that highlighted the growing standard of squash in India.

With USD 15,000 in prize money awarded in both the men's and women's categories, the tournament formed part of the HCL Squash Tour, a Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger Tour circuit aimed at strengthening India's squash ecosystem.

The biggest story of the tournament came in the women's final, where India's Tanvi Khanna displayed exceptional resilience to defeat Egypt's Farida Walid in five games. After losing the opening two games 8-11 and 2-11, the World No. 74 appeared to be heading towards defeat against the second-seeded Egyptian. However, Tanvi refused to surrender.

She gradually found her rhythm, improving both her movement and shot selection to wrestle back control of the contest. The turning point arrived in the third game, where the Indian edged a tense battle 12-10 to keep the match alive. That victory shifted the momentum decisively. Playing with renewed confidence, Tanvi claimed the fourth game 11-9 before completing a sensational comeback by winning the decider 11-7, securing one of the most significant titles of her professional career.

The victory marked another important milestone for the Delhi-based player, who had earlier reached her 11th PSA Tour final after surviving a five-game semifinal against Japan's Akari Midorikawa.

Winning on home soil against one of Egypt's rising stars adds valuable ranking points and further strengthens Tanvi's position as one of India's leading women's squash players.

The men's final proved equally dramatic. Malaysia's Mohammad Syafiq Kamal recovered from a two-game deficit to defeat Egypt's Yassin Shohdy in an absorbing five-game battle. Shohdy looked firmly in control after taking the opening two games 11-6 and 11-9, putting himself within one game of the title.

Kamal, however, responded impressively. The Malaysian raised his intensity in the third game to reduce the deficit with an 11-8 victory before edging an incredibly close fourth game 14-12 to force a deciding fifth. With momentum firmly on his side, Kamal maintained his attacking approach and closed out the final game 11-8 to complete an outstanding comeback and lift the championship trophy.

His victory capped an impressive week in Mumbai, during which he overcame several strong international opponents to secure the title.

The Mumbai leg of the PSA Challenger Tour once again demonstrated the importance of hosting international tournaments in India. With players representing 15 different countries, the event provided Indian professionals with valuable opportunities to compete against experienced international opponents without travelling overseas. Such tournaments play a vital role in helping Indian players earn PSA ranking points while gaining exposure to diverse playing styles at home.

The Mumbai tournament forms part of the broader HCL Squash Tour, a multi-city initiative organised in partnership with the Squash Rackets Federation of India. The series has become one of the most important platforms for professional squash in India, bringing PSA-certified tournaments to different parts of the country and creating more opportunities for Indian players to compete at an international standard.

Beyond prize money and rankings, the tour is designed to strengthen India's overall squash ecosystem by encouraging greater participation, supporting player development and improving international exposure. The continued collaboration between HCL and SRFI reflects a long-term commitment to building sustainable pathways for Indian squash talent.
