The Archery Premier League (APL) has received a significant boost ahead of its second season, with the Government of Telangana officially extending its support to India's premier franchise-based archery competition.

Scheduled to take place in Hyderabad from October 8 to 18, Season 2 of the league has been recognised as one of the state's marquee sporting events, underlining Telangana's growing ambition of becoming a leading destination for national and international sporting competitions. The announcement marks an important milestone for the league, which was launched in 2025 as the world's only franchise-based archery competition. With government backing, strong institutional support, and increasing public interest, the Archery Premier League is set to enter its second season with greater momentum and wider visibility.

The recognition of the Archery Premier League as one of Telangana's marquee sporting events reflects the state's long-term commitment to developing a robust sporting ecosystem. The announcement was made during the launch of the Young India Sports University logo and website in Hyderabad, an event attended by Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha.

The inclusion of the Archery Premier League among the state's flagship sporting events demonstrates the government's intent to attract high-profile competitions while simultaneously strengthening grassroots sports development.Hyderabad has already established itself as a regular host for international badminton, shooting, athletics, and cricket events. The addition of the Archery Premier League further expands the city's sporting calendar and reinforces its reputation as one of India's emerging sports hubs.

Telangana has consistently expressed its ambition to develop Hyderabad into a city capable of hosting major international sporting events. Supporting competitions like the Archery Premier League forms part of that broader strategy. By bringing world-class athletes, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and fans to the city, such events not only strengthen the sporting ecosystem but also contribute to tourism, infrastructure development, and economic activity.

The government's long-term vision includes positioning Hyderabad as a city capable of hosting global multi-sport events, including India's proposed bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.

The Archery Premier League therefore represents more than a domestic competition—it has become part of Telangana's larger sports development roadmap.

One of the unique aspects of Telangana's association with the league is that the state is represented by its own franchise, the Kakatiya Knights. The presence of a home team gives local supporters a direct connection with the competition while creating greater interest among aspiring archers across the state. Franchise-based leagues have played a major role in popularising sports across India, and the Archery Premier League aims to replicate that success by creating regional identities and fan engagement similar to other successful professional leagues.

For Telangana, having both hosting rights and a home franchise further strengthens its investment in the sport.

The government's support is also expected to benefit archery development beyond the professional league. Telangana has a rich archery tradition, particularly among the Koya and Gond tribal communities, where the sport has deep cultural roots. The state already possesses a growing network of Sports Schools, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, and Khelo India Centres, all of which play an important role in identifying and nurturing young talent.

Hosting the country's premier archery league provides these emerging athletes with the opportunity to witness elite competition firsthand while interacting with some of the world's leading archers.

The increased visibility generated by the league is expected to inspire greater participation among young athletes, particularly in rural and tribal regions where archery continues to enjoy strong grassroots support.

Season 2 Set to Feature Global Stars

The second edition of the Archery Premier League promises to raise the standard even further. Supported by both the Government of Telangana and the Archery Association of India (AAI), Season 2 will feature six franchise teams comprising 48 Indian and international archers. The competition will include both recurve and compound disciplines, with several Olympic medallists, world champions, and top-ranked international stars expected to participate.

The league's format continues to distinguish itself from traditional archery competitions through its innovative 15-second shot clock, which increases the pace of competition and creates a more spectator-friendly viewing experience.

The shorter decision-making window places additional pressure on athletes while making contests more engaging for television audiences and fans inside the stadium.

Beyond entertainment, the Archery Premier League plays an important developmental role for Indian archery. Competing alongside Olympic medallists and world champions provides Indian archers with regular exposure to elite international standards without needing to travel overseas. This environment helps younger athletes develop technical skills, tactical awareness, and the ability to perform under pressure.

With India consistently emerging as one of the strongest nations in world archery, particularly in compound events, competitions such as APL offer another pathway for nurturing future international medal contenders.

The league also creates professional opportunities for athletes while helping broaden the sport's commercial appeal.

Since its launch in 2025, the Archery Premier League has sought to transform how archery is presented to Indian audiences. By adopting a franchise-based model, featuring mixed-gender teams, incorporating both recurve and compound events, and introducing faster-paced competition through the 15-second shot clock, APL has attempted to modernise the sport while preserving its competitive integrity.

The Telangana Government's backing represents another major endorsement of that vision.

As Hyderabad prepares to welcome the world's only franchise-based archery league this October, Season 2 promises to be bigger than ever. With government support, international stars, a passionate local fanbase, and a growing grassroots ecosystem, the Archery Premier League appears well-positioned to continue driving the growth of archery in India while establishing Hyderabad as one of the country's premier destinations for elite sporting events.
