The Garden City is about to become a runner's city. On April 26, more than 35,000 participants will take to the streets of Bengaluru for the 18th edition of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru, making it the largest field in the event's storied history and a powerful statement about the extraordinary growth of distance running as India's most accessible and fastest-growing sport.

The numbers alone tell a compelling story. Open 10K registrations sold out in just six days a record for the event with multiple other categories oversubscribed well before race day. Over 9,000 participants are travelling from outside Bengaluru to take part, underlining that this is no longer merely a city event. The TCS World 10K Bengaluru has grown into a national institution, a World Athletics Gold Label Race that sits comfortably alongside the world's most prestigious road running events.

Promoted by Procam International and carrying a total prize purse of USD 210,000, this year's edition brings together an elite field that will test the very best in the business. Defending champion Abhishek Pal the event record holder will lead the Indian men's challenge, alongside Kiran Matre, who finished second among Indians at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2025 and third at last year's World 10K, and National Marathon Champion Dr. Kartik Karkera, who announced himself on the road racing circuit with a winning debut at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 in a time of 2:19:55. On the international front, Uganda's Harbert Kibet brings world-class pedigree and the kind of finishing speed that will make for compelling viewing on Bengaluru's streets.

The women's race is equally mouth-watering. Defending champion Sanjivani Jadhav, who holds a 10K personal best of 34:02 set at this very event two years ago, arrives having won the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 on debut a performance that confirmed her status as India's foremost female road racer. She will face a serious challenge from Lili Das, a former national champion in the 1500 metres whose 10K personal best of 34:13 makes her a genuine podium threat. Uganda's Sarah Chelangat, the defending international champion, completes a women's field that promises to produce one of the more competitive finishes in the event's recent history.

Adding a special dimension to this year's edition is the presence of World Champion and Olympic medallist Blanka Vlašić as International Event Ambassador a figure whose achievements in athletics bring an additional layer of global prestige to an event that already carries a World Athletics Gold Label.

Off the course, two new additions have enhanced the runner experience considerably. Air India Express has come on board as the Official Airline Partner for all Procam International races, introducing a creative Runner's Passport initiative that transforms race participation into a collectible journey. Each participant receives a specially designed passport at the Expo, which accumulates unique stamps across different races and distances throughout the season a personal keepsake that captures milestones and memories in a tangible, meaningful way. Flight discounts of up to 20 percent add a practical incentive for the thousands travelling into Bengaluru from across the country.

Indian hockey star Jarmanpreet Singh, an ASICS athlete, unveiled the exclusive ASICS Finisher Tee that will be awarded to the top 1,500 finishers in both the men's and women's Open 10K categories. "I see a strong connection between hockey and running it's all about pacing yourself, staying consistent, and finishing strong," Singh said, drawing a characteristically sharp parallel between the disciplines that resonated with the running community. Hydration Partner Bisleri has also launched limited-edition bottles featuring Indian athletes including Abhishek Pal, Harmanjot Singh and Soniya, celebrating their achievements while inspiring the broader participant field.

Race day itself promises to be a sensory spectacle. The course will come alive with Dollu Kunitha the powerful traditional drum dance alongside cheering zones inspired by Bengaluru's iconic KR Flower Market and community groups dressed in traditional attire. Over 570 supporters from running clubs across the city will line the route, ensuring that the atmosphere matches the quality of the competition. BMRCL has arranged special early morning metro services beginning as early as 3:00 am from multiple stations, ensuring that participants from across the city can reach the start line without logistical stress.

For Indian athletics, the TCS World 10K Bengaluru is more than a race. It is a mirror held up to a country discovering, year by year, that running is not just sport it is community, identity, and purpose. On April 26, 35,000 people will cross the start line on Cubbon Road. Every single one of them will have a story worth telling.
