Deepti Sharma claimed two wickets as Sunrisers Leeds defeated London Spirit by five wickets in The Hundred, with Annabel Sutherland guiding the chase.

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma produced another impressive all-round performance in The Hundred, playing a crucial role in Sunrisers Leeds' five-wicket victory over London Spirit at Headingley on Tuesday.

While her contribution with the bat was brief, Deepti's disciplined bowling proved instrumental in restricting London Spirit to a manageable total. The experienced off-spinner claimed two important wickets while conceding just 18 runs from her 20-ball spell, helping Sunrisers take control of the contest before the batters completed a comfortable chase.

The victory keeps Sunrisers Leeds firmly in contention as the competition enters its decisive phase, with Deepti once again underlining her value as one of the most dependable all-rounders in women's cricket.

After being asked to bowl first, the Sunrisers Leeds needed an early breakthrough against a London Spirit batting lineup packed with experienced international players. Although Grace Harris produced an aggressive half-century, Deepti ensured the rest of the batting order never settled.

The Indian spinner dismissed Nadine de Klerk, breaking an important partnership at a crucial stage of the innings before later removing Katie George to further restrict London's scoring opportunities. Her figures of 2 for 18 from 20 balls reflected exceptional control and accuracy, as she consistently denied the batters easy scoring options.

Deepti's ability to build pressure through economical bowling forced London Spirit into taking risks against the other bowlers, contributing significantly to Sunrisers' overall bowling performance.

For London Spirit, Australian all-rounder Grace Harris was the standout performer with an entertaining knock of 51 from just 27 deliveries. She played positively from the outset, finding regular boundaries and ensuring the scoring rate remained healthy during the early stages of the innings.

However, Harris received very little support from the rest of the batting lineup. Sunrisers' disciplined bowling attack prevented the remaining batters from making substantial contributions, regularly picking up wickets and slowing the run rate through the middle overs.

As a result, London Spirit finished on 136, a competitive but far from intimidating total given the conditions at Headingley. Sunrisers Leeds approached the chase with intent. Australian opener Phoebe Litchfield provided the perfect platform by attacking from the very beginning.

Her fluent 30 off 17 deliveries immediately shifted the pressure onto the London Spirit bowlers and ensured Leeds remained comfortably ahead of the required scoring rate. Litchfield's aggressive approach allowed the middle order to settle into the chase without facing excessive scoreboard pressure. Although she departed after making an important contribution, the early momentum proved invaluable.

Promoted into the batting order, Deepti Sharma was unable to replicate her success with the ball. She managed six runs from seven deliveries before becoming the second wicket to fall, dismissed by Katie George. Despite her early departure, the target never looked beyond Sunrisers' reach. The solid foundation laid by Litchfield meant the incoming batters only needed to maintain composure and avoid unnecessary risks.

Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland once again demonstrated why she has become one of the most reliable performers in franchise cricket. Walking to the crease after Litchfield's dismissal, Sutherland ensured there would be no late collapse. She paced her innings intelligently, rotating the strike effectively while punishing loose deliveries whenever opportunities arose.

Remaining unbeaten until the end, Sutherland calmly guided Sunrisers Leeds across the finish line to seal a five-wicket victory. Her composed knock perfectly complemented Litchfield's explosive start and ensured Leeds completed the chase without major drama.

Although her batting contribution was limited, Deepti Sharma's impact on the match came through her primary strength: her ability to control the game with the ball. Her economical spell not only produced two wickets but also prevented London Spirit from accelerating during crucial phases of the innings.

For Sunrisers Leeds, that discipline proved decisive in keeping the target within comfortable reach.

As The Hundred moves towards its business end, Deepti continues to demonstrate why she remains one of India's most valuable white-ball cricketers. Her consistency with the ball, combined with her ability to contribute in multiple departments, makes her an indispensable asset for both franchise and country. With Sunrisers Leeds building momentum, the Indian all-rounder will be hoping to carry this form into the remaining fixtures as the race for the knockout stages intensifies.
