The 19-year wait is finally over. Dhiraj Bommadevara has become the Archery World Cup Final champion, defeating Japan’s Junya Nakanishi 6-5 in a thrilling men’s recurve final to deliver a landmark gold medal for India.

Dhiraj’s triumph carries historic significance for Indian archery. Nineteen years after Dola Banerjee became India’s last World Cup Final champion, Dhiraj has brought the prestigious title back to the country, producing a memorable performance on the biggest stage of the World Cup season.

The Asian champion’s journey to the gold medal was built on two exceptional knockout performances before the final, where he first defeated Türkiye’s Berkim Tümer and then overcame France’s Jean-Charles Valladont.

Dhiraj entered the knockout stages with a difficult quarterfinal against Türkiye’s Berkim Tümer, but the Indian immediately established control.
