India Crush Pakistan by Seven Wickets as Shree Charani Spins a Web in Women’s Asia Cup 2026

India produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Pakistan by seven wickets in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday, completing their third consecutive victory in the tournament and strengthening their position at the top of Group A.

After bowling Pakistan out for a modest total, India overcame a brief wobble during the chase to comfortably reach the target in just 8.4 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur provided the finishing touch, hitting a six off the final ball of the match to seal a comprehensive victory over India's arch-rivals.

The victory took India to six points from three matches, with wins over Thailand, Hong Kong and Pakistan. Pakistan remained second in the group with two points and still had a chance to qualify for the semifinals.

Pakistan won the toss and captain Fatima Sana elected to bat first at the Dubai International Stadium. The decision quickly turned into a difficult afternoon for the Pakistan batting unit as India's spinners took control of the contest.

Pakistan's innings began positively enough, reaching 27-1 after five overs. However, the dismissal of opener Shawaal Zulfiqar triggered a dramatic collapse. Shree Charani struck to remove Shawaal, leaving Pakistan at 29-3 at the end of the powerplay.

Charani continued to cause problems. She dismissed Feroza for a duck and later accounted for Ayesha Zafar, who was caught at wide mid-on by Harmanpreet Kaur for just two runs. At 35-5 after nine overs, Pakistan were in serious trouble.

The pressure intensified when captain Fatima Sana was trapped lbw by Deepti Sharma, reducing Pakistan to 35-6. At the halfway stage, Pakistan had reached only 36-6, with India's spin attack continuing to dominate proceedings.

Pakistan managed to add a few more runs through the lower order, but the damage had already been done. The collapse was particularly severe during a stretch in which Pakistan scored just 12 runs while losing six wickets from the previous 30 balls.

Shree Charani delivers a match-winning spell

The standout performer with the ball was India's young spinner Shree Charani. Charani finished with figures of 3-7, earning the Player of the Match award for her decisive contribution in the low-scoring contest. Her ability to extract control from the surface and attack the Pakistani batters at crucial moments played a major role in India's victory.

Charani said after the game that her focus was simply on bowling to her strengths and using the field set around her. She also revealed that she was one wicket short of reaching 50 career wickets but remained focused on continuing to contribute for India.

Her performance was complemented by Deepti Sharma and the rest of India's bowling attack, which kept Pakistan from establishing any meaningful partnership.

Chasing a small target, India appeared to be in complete control when Shafali Verma opened the innings with a huge six. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, however, briefly brought her team back into the contest by taking three quick wickets. Shafali, Rawal and Smriti Mandhana all departed as India lost momentum during the early stages of the chase.

The setback proved temporary.

Harmanpreet Kaur took charge and ensured there was no further drama. The India captain combined controlled strokeplay with an aggressive finish, hitting a boundary before launching the winning six off the final delivery.

India reached the target in 8.4 overs, winning by seven wickets and underlining the gulf created by their exceptional bowling performance earlier in the day.

Harmanpreet marks milestone with big win

The match was also a significant milestone for Harmanpreet Kaur, who was leading India in her 150th T20 International as captain, becoming the first captain in international cricket to reach the landmark.

Speaking after the match, Harmanpreet praised the entire bowling unit for sticking to their plans and reading the conditions effectively.

She also stressed the importance of India maintaining their standards despite the comfortable nature of the victory. With two more matches ahead in the tournament, the captain made it clear that India would be looking to carry their momentum forward.

The victory gave India three wins from three matches and six points, putting them at the top of Group A and confirming their place in the semifinals. Pakistan, meanwhile, remain alive in the qualification race. They have one group match remaining against Hong Kong on Monday, with victory enough to put them through to the semifinals.

For India, the biggest takeaway from the Pakistan clash was the strength of their bowling attack. Charani's three wickets, Deepti's economical spell and the collective pressure applied by the spinners reduced Pakistan from a competitive start to a deeply vulnerable position.

The batting unit then completed the job with minimal fuss.

With India now safely through to the semifinals, the challenge will be to maintain the same intensity when the knockout stage arrives.
