India's contention at Taipei Open Super 300

The 8th Super 300 tournament of the year commenced today in Taipei, and it will be featuring as many as 26 participants from India among all five disciplines (7 in qualifying rounds and 19 in the main draw).

Here is a detailed analysis of all Indian players that will be playing this week (28 July-2 August).

Mixed doubles: Bhatnagar/Mishra, who are just outside of the top 100 in rankings, will open their campaign against the home pair of Tsai/Sung (ranked 223). The Indian pair won 2 international challenger events this year and might face a stern test against world champion Watanabe and her partner Taguchi in the second round. Kanapuram/Sharma will face the 3rd seed from the USA, Smith/Gai, whom they faced 2 months back in May and lost to 0-2 in competitive sets. Dhruv/Maneesha, the highest Indian pair in XD the draw, will open against a tricky Thai pair of Jomkoh/Jongsathapornparn.

Women's doubles: Aditi/Shravani, the sole representative from India in the women's doubles draw, needs to win 2 qualifying round matches in order to make it to the round of 32. The pair will face the 206th-ranked pair of Chen/Lai on 28th July.

Men's doubles: The young pair of Arigela/Gobburu, who showed great potential this year after turning into seniors from juniors, will be facing the in-form pair of Chen/Smith from the USA, and if the Indians manage to pull an upset over the 4th seeds, they will face a Japanese or Taiwanese pair in the next round with the 8th-seeded Indonesians waiting in the quarterfinals. Another veteran pair of Doddavarapu/Pochana will be playing the preliminaries.

Women's singles: India has 1/3rd of the representatives in the women's singles draw, which is the most by any country. Isharani will face a stern test against the home favourite and first seed Chiu; the former hasn't won a match in the last 2 months. The new sensation Devika, who became the only WS player after Saina and Sindhu to win a world tour event, is placed in the 2nd quarter and will open against a tricky Korean, Park Ga Eun, with 3rd seeded Unnati Hooda in the quarterfinals.

Tanvi will be up against Tasnim in the first round and might face veteran Beiwen in the R16. Ashmita and Anmol might face each other if they both win their first-round match, with the latter facing the 2nd seed. Shriyanshi will be facing ever-dangerous lefty Supanida Katethong. 

Men's singles: With as many as 4 players in the qualifying draw, all eyes will be on Rounak Chauhan, who showed his calibre after defeating last week's champion Chou Tien Chen just a couple of weeks ago. Rithvik, Tushar, Sankar and Rounak will need to win 2 matches back to back to get the main draw ticket. In the main draw Tharun will open against the 8th seed Jeon, and Kiran will be playing home hope Wang, with both being the potential R16 opponents if they win. 

Veteran HS Prannoy is the biggest hope for India; seeded 7th, he will start his campaign against Japanese Koga and might face the All England Champion Lin Chun-yi as early as the quarterfinals. Mithun will play against Gunawan from 🇭🇰, and Saneeth will play against Eogene from Malaysia in the first round. 

Predictions: Given the depth in WS, 🇮🇳 might see a podium finish in it with the outside chance of Prannoy or Rounak digging deeper into the draw.
