ISL 2025-26: Bengaluru FC Eye Return to Winning Ways Against Struggling Odisha FC

Bengaluru FC will look to end their three-match winless run and strengthen their position in the playoff race when they face Odisha FC in ISL 2025-26 at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Monday.
The Blues head into the fixture after a gritty goalless draw against Mumbai City FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, a result that extended their unbeaten away form this season but also highlighted the team’s ongoing struggle to consistently convert performances into victories.
For Odisha FC, the situation appears more worrying.
The Juggernauts have endured a difficult campaign and currently sit 13th on the table with just six points, only three points above the relegation zone. Their recent form has been particularly disappointing, with four defeats in their last five matches, including a heavy 0-3 loss to East Bengal FC in their previous outing.
Despite the contrasting league positions, the fixture promises to be tightly contested. Historically, meetings between Bengaluru and Odisha have often produced competitive encounters. Across 16 ISL clashes between the two sides, both teams have won seven matches each, while only two games have ended in draws a statistic that underlines how evenly matched the rivalry has been over the years.
For Bengaluru, however, this match carries added importance.
The club currently occupies sixth place with 15 points and remains firmly in contention for a strong finish during the business end of the shortened season. But with the playoff race intensifying, dropped points could quickly prove costly. Head coach Pep Muñoz is also still searching for his first ISL victory since taking charge of the side following the departure of Renedy Singh. While the Spaniard has overseen some encouraging performances, Bengaluru have yet to fully translate that into results.
Speaking ahead of the match, Muñoz acknowledged the challenge awaiting his side. He stressed that Odisha possess enough attacking quality to hurt opponents and insisted Bengaluru would need to remain fully focused throughout the contest.
The Blues can still take confidence from their impressive away form this season. Bengaluru have already secured three wins and a draw on the road, making them one of the better travelling sides in the league. That record could become crucial as they look to rediscover momentum against an Odisha side struggling for confidence. Much of Bengaluru’s stability continues to come from the experience of goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who remains one of the league’s most influential defensive figures.
The India international emphasized the importance of defensive concentration and communication, particularly against Odisha’s transition-based attacking style. Gurpreet noted that while Odisha may not be unpredictable, they still possess dangerous offensive tools capable of punishing mistakes.
Bengaluru’s preparations, however, have been complicated by injuries. The team will be without two important wide players in Nikhil Poojary and Ashique Kuruniyan, both sidelined with muscular problems. Poojary’s absence is especially significant after the defender limped off during the previous game against Mumbai City. Muñoz confirmed that Poojary is still undergoing recovery work and has not yet resumed team training, suggesting the club is unwilling to rush him back before full fitness.
The injury setbacks could open the door for Bengaluru’s younger players to step up. Muñoz has repeatedly spoken about his belief in youth development, something shaped heavily by his coaching background in Barcelona. The Spaniard expressed satisfaction with the talent emerging through Bengaluru’s academy setup and hinted that players like Soham and several others could receive opportunities in the coming matches.
That emphasis on young talent may become increasingly important as Bengaluru navigate a packed schedule while managing injuries within the squad.
For Odisha FC, Monday’s fixture may represent one of the final opportunities to revive a fading campaign.
Their only victory this season came in an impressive 4-1 away win against NorthEast United FC back in March a result that briefly suggested the team might recover after a poor start. Instead, consistency has remained elusive, and the side has struggled both defensively and in maintaining attacking control during key moments.
Coach TG Purushothaman now faces mounting pressure to halt the slide before Odisha become further dragged into relegation concerns. From Bengaluru’s perspective, the equation is comparatively straightforward.
The Blues need three points. A victory would not only strengthen their playoff push but also potentially provide the spark Pep Muñoz needs to fully establish his influence on the team. The performances under him have often shown structure and defensive organization, but Bengaluru now need sharper execution in the final third to convert control into wins. With the league entering a crucial phase, the margin for error continues to shrink.
For Odisha, it is about survival and pride. For Bengaluru, it is about momentum, consistency and staying firmly in the race at the top half of the table.
Monday’s clash in Goa may not define the season for either side, but it could significantly shape the direction both clubs take over the coming weeks.
