MLB Brings MLBx to India for the First Time as Suryakumar Yadav Headlines Mumbai Event

Major League Baseball will bring its MLBx 3-on-3 baseball event to Mumbai for the first time on October 24, featuring Suryakumar Yadav and MLB legends.
Major League Baseball (MLB) is set to make another significant stride in its global expansion strategy by bringing its innovative MLBx competition to India for the very first time.
The event will take place on October 24, 2026, at the Mumbai Football Arena in the Andheri Sports Complex, marking a historic moment for baseball in the country.
The Mumbai edition of MLBx will introduce Indian sports fans to a fast-paced, entertainment-driven version of baseball that blends competitive action with interactive fan experiences. Adding further star power to the event is India's T20 World Cup-winning captain and MLB Ambassador Suryakumar Yadav, who will be joined by former Major League Baseball All-Stars Nick Swisher and Adrián González.
Tickets for the event have gone on sale exclusively through BookMyShow, offering Indian fans an opportunity to witness Major League Baseball's latest global initiative firsthand.
Created by Major League Baseball, MLBx is a condensed three-on-three baseball competition designed to make the sport faster, more accessible and entertainment-focused. Unlike traditional nine-inning baseball games, MLBx emphasises explosive batting, athletic defensive plays and continuous action, making it easier for new audiences to understand and enjoy the sport.
The competition features mixed-gender teams and is designed to combine sport with music, live entertainment, fan interaction and stadium experiences.
Following a successful showcase during MLB All-Star Week in Philadelphia, MLBx now continues its international expansion, with Mumbai becoming the latest destination after previous editions in London, Seoul and Mexico City. Over the last three years, the format has also been staged at 15 venues across the United States.
One of the biggest attractions for Indian audiences will undoubtedly be Suryakumar Yadav's involvement. The Indian batting star has been working closely with Major League Baseball as an official ambassador, helping introduce baseball to a country traditionally dominated by cricket.
His presence reflects MLB's strategy of partnering with globally recognised Indian athletes to create greater awareness around the sport. Suryakumar's popularity extends far beyond cricket, particularly among younger sports fans, making him an ideal face for MLB's expansion efforts in India. His participation is expected to generate significant interest and expose baseball to audiences who may be experiencing the sport for the first time.
Joining Suryakumar Yadav in Mumbai will be two highly accomplished former Major League Baseball players. Nick Swisher enjoyed a successful 12-season MLB career and was part of the New York Yankees team that won the 2009 World Series. He also earned an MLB All-Star selection in 2010 and remains one of the league's most recognisable personalities.
Adrián González arrives with an equally impressive résumé. Across a distinguished 15-year Major League career, González earned five MLB All-Star selections while winning four Silver Slugger Awards and four Gold Glove Awards. He represented several iconic franchises, including the Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Their participation will provide Indian fans with an opportunity to interact with players who competed at the highest level of professional baseball. MLB has also confirmed that additional participants will be announced in the coming weeks.
The announcement represents another milestone in Major League Baseball's long-term commitment to the Indian market. Over recent years, MLB has steadily increased its engagement in India through strategic partnerships and grassroots initiatives aimed at introducing baseball to new audiences. The league's collaboration with Suryakumar Yadav as a global ambassador has been complemented by partnerships with RISE Worldwide, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, and JioStar, helping MLB strengthen its commercial and broadcast presence in the country.
Speaking about the announcement, Jeremiah Yolkut, Senior Vice President of Global Operations and Events at Major League Baseball, highlighted India's growing importance in MLB's international strategy.
He described India as one of the world's most exciting destinations for large-scale sporting events and a significant growth opportunity for baseball, expressing confidence that MLBx would give fans a unique opportunity to experience the excitement and energy of the sport firsthand.
MLBx has been designed as more than simply a sporting contest. The event aims to deliver a festival-like atmosphere featuring interactive fan experiences, live entertainment, music and classic ballpark food with locally inspired flavours. This approach mirrors MLB's broader objective of adapting baseball experiences for international markets while respecting local sporting culture.
For India, where sports entertainment has become increasingly popular through franchise leagues and fan festivals, the format offers a familiar environment while introducing an entirely new sport. The combination of short-format competition and entertainment-driven presentation could help baseball attract younger audiences looking for fast-paced live sporting experiences.
While cricket remains India's undisputed sporting powerhouse, international leagues continue exploring opportunities to establish a foothold in one of the world's largest sports markets. The arrival of MLBx represents another example of India's growing importance in the global sporting landscape, with international organisations increasingly recognising the country's passionate fan base and appetite for new sporting experiences.
For Major League Baseball, Mumbai is more than just another stop on its international calendar—it is a strategic investment in a market with enormous long-term potential.
With Suryakumar Yadav leading the event alongside two former MLB All-Stars, baseball's debut through the MLBx format promises to be one of the most unique sporting events of the year. If successful, it could serve as the foundation for even deeper engagement between Major League Baseball and India's rapidly evolving sports ecosystem.
