The fourth edition of the Oriental Cup will be held from July 7-16 in New Delhi, featuring over 1,500 student-athletes, a record prize pool and a ₹2.5 lakh scholarship programme

The Oriental Cup 2026 is set to become the biggest edition in the tournament's history, with organisers announcing an expanded prize pool, a new scholarship programme worth ₹2.5 lakh, and record participation from schools across Delhi-NCR.

The fourth edition of the rapidly growing inter-school football tournament will be held from July 7 to July 16 at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi, bringing together more than 1,500 student-athletes representing over 45 schools. With more than 50 matches scheduled across two categories, the tournament continues to strengthen its position as one of India's most promising grassroots football competitions.

The announcements were made during a press conference held at Aloft Hotel, Aerocity, where organisers outlined their vision of making the Oriental Cup a long-term platform for nurturing young footballers.

Since its inception in 2023, the Oriental Cup has witnessed consistent year-on-year growth, and the 2026 edition reflects that upward trajectory. This year's competition is expected to feature 25-plus teams in the Boys' Under-17 category and 16-plus teams in the Girls' Under-19 category, ensuring increased participation while maintaining a competitive standard throughout the tournament.

With over 50 matches scheduled across ten days, players will have the opportunity to compete in a professionally managed environment while gaining valuable match experience. The increase in participation also highlights the growing popularity of school football in Delhi-NCR, with more educational institutions recognising the value of structured sporting competitions.

One of the biggest announcements ahead of the 2026 edition is the significant increase in the tournament's prize money. Organisers confirmed that the overall prize pool has been more than doubled, making it the highest since the tournament was launched. While the exact financial breakdown has not been disclosed, the move reflects the organisers' commitment to rewarding excellence and encouraging greater participation among schools and young athletes.

The enhanced prize pool is expected to further raise the competitive level of the tournament while providing additional motivation for participating teams.

₹2.5 Lakh Scholarship Programme Introduced

Beyond on-field competition, the Oriental Cup has also introduced a major initiative focused on athlete development. For the first time, the tournament will offer a ₹2.5 lakh scholarship programme, benefiting 10 deserving student-athletes. The scholarships are aimed at supporting promising young footballers in balancing their sporting ambitions with their educational journey. By investing directly in student-athletes, the Oriental Cup is looking beyond short-term tournament success and contributing towards the long-term development of grassroots football.

The initiative also reflects a growing understanding that financial support can play an important role in helping talented youngsters continue pursuing competitive sport.

One of the defining features of the Oriental Cup has been its commitment to promoting girls' football alongside the boys' competition. According to the organisers, the number of girls' teams has doubled since the inaugural edition and now accounts for nearly 40 per cent of all participating teams. This steady increase is an encouraging sign for women's football at the school level, providing more opportunities for young female footballers to compete regularly in organised competitions.

The organisers have stated that expanding girls' participation will remain one of the tournament's long-term priorities.

Speaking during the launch, Fareed Bakshi, Founder of the Oriental Cup, said the tournament continues to focus on creating opportunities for young footballers while expanding support beyond the playing field. He highlighted the introduction of the scholarship programme and the increased prize pool as important steps towards recognising young talent and encouraging player development. Bakshi also pointed to the steady growth in girls' participation as evidence that the tournament is moving in the right direction as it seeks to establish itself among India's leading inter-school football competitions.

The tournament continues to attract backing from organisations committed to grassroots sports development. Oriental Structural Engineers Pvt. Ltd. returns as the title sponsor for the 2026 edition. Nivia Sports has partnered as the official football partner, while Ocean Beverages joins as the hydration partner.

Central Park Resorts will support the tournament as an associate partner.

Representatives from both Oriental Structural Engineers and Central Park Resorts reiterated their commitment to youth development, emphasising that sport plays a vital role in teaching discipline, teamwork, resilience and leadership. Their continued support provides greater stability for the tournament while helping improve the overall experience for participating athletes.

The Oriental Cup has expanded significantly in just four editions. Across its first three seasons, the tournament has:

  • Engaged more than 55 educational institutions and NGOs

  • Reached over 2,700 young footballers

  • Conducted 80-plus competitive matches

These numbers underline the tournament's rapid growth and its increasing importance within Delhi-NCR's school sports ecosystem.

The organisers believe the 2026 edition will further strengthen that foundation by providing a larger platform, improved facilities and greater competitive opportunities.

While trophies remain an important objective, the Oriental Cup's broader vision extends beyond winning matches. The tournament aims to provide young athletes with an environment that promotes sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and personal development alongside competitive football. By combining professional tournament management, educational scholarships, corporate partnerships and equal opportunities for boys and girls, the Oriental Cup is steadily emerging as one of India's most comprehensive school football initiatives.

As more than 1,500 student-athletes prepare to take the field between July 7 and July 16, the fourth edition promises to be the most competitive and impactful yet. With a record prize pool, scholarship support and growing participation, the Oriental Cup continues to establish itself as a key platform for identifying and nurturing the next generation of Indian football talent.
