Rohan Bopanna, Roman Burruchaga and Rinky Hijikata Headline Kia TPL Season 8 Marquee Line-Up

The Kia Tennis Premier League Season 8 is set for a significant international upgrade, with Indian tennis legend Rohan Bopanna and a strong group of international players confirmed as the eight franchise marquee players ahead of the player auction in Mumbai on October 12.
The auction will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel, where the eight franchises will build their squads around their respective marquee players. The line-up brings together Grand Slam pedigree, ATP Tour experience and some of the most promising young players from the international circuit.
The eight franchises competing in Season 8 are Mumbai Royals, Rajasthan Rangers, Gurgaon Grand Slammers, Kolkata Thunder Blades, Lucknow Blazers, Hyderabad Strikers, Gujarat Panthers and defending champions GS Delhi Aces.
Leading the marquee line-up is Rohan Bopanna, who will represent the Gurgaon Grand Slammers. At 46, Bopanna remains one of the most decorated names in Indian tennis. The former World No. 1 in men's doubles is a two-time Grand Slam champion, having won the 2017 French Open mixed doubles title and the 2024 Australian Open men's doubles crown.
His presence gives Gurgaon not only an elite doubles specialist but also a player with extensive experience of high-pressure team environments. Bopanna's career has been built around his serve, net play and ability to manage decisive points qualities that become particularly important in TPL's condensed format.
A Padma Shri and Arjuna Award recipient, Bopanna is returning to the league with expectations of another competitive season.
"I'm really looking forward to being back at Kia TPL. Every year, the league gets stronger, and I love the team environment and energy the format brings," Bopanna said.
He also highlighted the combination of experienced players and young Indian talent expected to compete this season, while welcoming TPL's move to Hyderabad.
Burruchaga leads international singles contingent
Argentina's Roman Burruchaga will be one of the most intriguing marquee players at the auction, representing the Kolkata Thunder Blades.
The 24-year-old is currently ranked World No. 60 in singles and reached a career-high No. 56 earlier this year. His regular presence on the ATP Tour gives Kolkata a marquee player accustomed to the demands of international singles competition. Australian Rinky Hijikata will headline the Rajasthan Rangers. The 25-year-old brings a particularly valuable combination of singles and doubles experience.
Hijikata won the 2023 Australian Open men's doubles title and reached the 2025 Wimbledon men's doubles final. He has also climbed as high as World No. 23 in doubles and is currently ranked World No. 82 in singles. For a league that combines singles and doubles, that versatility could prove significant.
"I'm really excited to be part of the Rajasthan Rangers and make my Kia TPL debut this season. The 25-point format makes the league very exciting," Hijikata said.
The remaining six marquee players give the league an equally diverse international flavour.
France's Terence Atmane, nicknamed "The Magician", will represent the Mumbai Royals. The 24-year-old reached a career-high World No. 41 this year and brings an aggressive style and ATP-level experience to the Mumbai franchise.
The Lucknow Blazers have retained Czechia's Dalibor Svrcina as their marquee player for a second consecutive season. Svrcina has reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 86, giving Lucknow continuity at the top of its squad. Hyderabad Strikers will be represented by Croatia's Dino Prizmic. A former Junior World No. 1 and 2023 Roland Garros Boys' Singles champion, Prizmic has already reached a career-high World No. 70 despite being only 21.
The defending champions, GS Delhi Aces, have Australian Adam Walton as their marquee player. Walton has reached a career-high World No. 74 and brings experience from both the ATP Tour and Grand Slam level. Completing the line-up is France's Alexandre Muller, who returns to represent the Gujarat Panthers. The 29-year-old is one of the most experienced players in the group and has reached a career-high World No. 38.
With the marquee players now confirmed, the October 12 auction becomes the next major milestone. Each franchise will attempt to construct a balanced squad around its headline player, with doubles combinations and the availability of players across different disciplines likely to influence team-building decisions.
That aspect is particularly important in the TPL because matches are not simply individual singles contests. The league combines men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles, with each match played over a 25-point format. The compressed scoring system leaves little room for slow starts. A few decisive points can alter the momentum of an entire tie, making squad balance and player versatility critical components of the franchise strategy.
Season 8 will then move to Hyderabad, marking the TPL's first season in the city. The tournament will be played at the LB Tennis Stadium from December 8 to 13, with matches beginning from 4:30 PM onwards and streamed live on JioHotstar. The combination of Bopanna's experience, Burruchaga's current singles ranking, Hijikata's Grand Slam doubles pedigree and the international depth across the remaining franchises gives Season 8 a strong competitive base.
The auction will determine how effectively each team can build around those marquee names. In a format where every point carries immediate value, the smartest squad construction could ultimately matter as much as the biggest signing.
