Tanvi Sharma created history as she became the youngest shuttler to win the Taipei Open.
She achieved this major milestone defeating Ngyuen of Vietnam in two straight games during the finals of the Super 300 Taipei Open 2026 played at Taipei Arena, Taipei on 2nd August.
Tanvi started the first game with aggression, keeping Nyguen under serious trouble with attacking moves, making life tough. The young Indian shuttler looked to game away before Ngyuen took 6 successive points. At the mid-game break, Tanvi took a 11-8 lead. After the interval, Tanvi impressed once again keeping the momentum going and made life tough for her opponent. Ngyuen again fought back with successive points, but Tanvi showed his class to win first game by 21-16.
Ngyuen began the initial stages of the 2nd game on a positive note, taking a 3-0 lead before Tanvi showed her class with aggressive shots, keeping her opponent in trouble. It was an impressive performance by the young Indian hitting positive shots, including smashes and drop shots. At the mid-game break, Tanvi had a 11-8 lead. After the break, the Indian maintained momentum, hitting positive shots, keeping Ngyuen in trouble. Despite some fightback by Ngyuen, Tanvi put on a dominating display, winning the 2nd game easily by 21-16. Tanvi became the 2nd after Saina Nehwal to win the Taipei Open. It was an impressive performance by the young Indian, keeping momentum going and making sure that she does not allow any chances to her opponent.
Journey of Tanvi Sharma in Taipei Open 2026
Tanvi had a memorable journey in the Super 300 Taipei Open 2026 right from the word go. It was superb performance by young Indian making sure that she finished at top of podium and became the 2nd Indian after Devika Sihag to win the Super 300 tournament this year.
Tanvi began her journey with a straight game win over Tasnim Mir. It was an impressive performance by Tanvi keeping momentum going winning with 21-16, 22-20 scoreline. The 2nd game was a much closely fought affair as both players fought for each point before Tanvi won.
She then defeated TR Wiryawan of Indonesia in two straight games. It was an impressive performance by Tanvi with aggressive moves winning with 21-17 scoreline. The second game was a closely fought affair as both players fought for each point before the Indian showed courage to win with 22-20 scoreline to move into the quarterfinals.
Tanvi then stunned 4th-seeded Supinda Kathenong in the quarterfinals during a thrilling three-game thriller. The Indian impressed one and all with aggressive shots keeping the momentum going winning first game by 21-15.
The second game was a closely fought affair, but this time Tanvi committed unforced errors as Supinda won the 2nd game by 21-18 to force into the decider. Tanvi showed her domination in the 3rd and deciding game keeping Supinda in trouble to win with 21-14 scoreline to move into the Semi-finals.
Tanvi showed her class getting past 5th seeded Huang Yu Husan of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. It was a dominating performance by Tanvi not allowing any chances for Huang winning with 21-11, 21-17 scoreline to move into the grand finale.
Other Indian Shuttler Performances
The men’s singles section Kiran George knocked out in the quarterfinals. George defeated Wang P-w of Chinese Taipei with ease by 21-10, 21-18. It was an impressive performance by George producing attacking shots winning easily. George then defeated Tharun Mannepalli in two straight games by 21-15, 21-16. It was an impressive performance by Geroge putting Mannepalli in trouble right from the word go keeping momentum going and won it easily. Kiran then got knocked to Okimoto of Japan in two straight games. It was a disappointing performance by George losing by 12-21, 10-21.
Tharun Mannepalli stunned the 8th seeded Jeon H-j of South Korea in the first round. He produced stunning effort keeping Jeon under trouble winning by 21-12, 21-15. His journey ended losing to Kiran George by 15-21, 16-21.
HS Prannoy won his first-round match against Koga by 21-11, 21-14 before losing to Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong in 2nd round. Prannoy struggled in the first game with 9-21 scoreline. The second game was a closely fought affair before the Indian lost by 19-21.
Mithun Manjunath suffered a straight-game loss to Jason Gunwan with a 18-21, 4-21 scoreline. The first game was a closely fought affair right till the end. S Dayanand and Raunak Chahuhan suffered first-round losses. Dayanand lost to E. Ewe of Malaysia in three games by 4-21, 21-19, and 12-21. Raunak did not look impressive with a straight game loss to Richardo by 14-21, 16-21.
Apart from Tanvi Sharma, Unnati Hooda made it into the semi-finals while Devika Sihag got knocked out in the quarterfinals. Ishrani Burah, Shreyanshi Valishetty, Ashmitha Chahilha and Santosh Ramraj got knocked out in the first round itself. Anmol Kharb won her first round match against Ishika Jaiswal of USA with 21-15, 11-21, 21-19. Anmol lost to Lin C-t of Chinese Taipei in 2nd round.
