UP Warriorz have unveiled an innovative fan engagement initiative titled ‘UPW Fan Adda’, aimed at bringing communities together to support the Indian women’s cricket team during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise will host curated public screenings across multiple cities in Uttar Pradesh, providing women and families with a safe and welcoming environment to experience the tournament together.

The first phase of the initiative will coincide with India’s highly anticipated group-stage clash against South Africa on June 21. Simultaneous screenings will be organised in Varanasi, Lucknow, Agra, and Kanpur, with another event already planned in Lucknow for India’s fixture against Australia on June 28.

The initiative is part of the franchise’s “Safe Space to Watch” campaign, reflecting its broader vision of making women’s sport more accessible while encouraging community participation and inclusive fan experiences.

At a time when women’s cricket in India is enjoying unprecedented popularity, UP Warriorz hope the Fan Adda initiative will strengthen the bond between supporters and the national team. Rather than limiting the experience to television screens at home, the franchise wants fans to celebrate together in dedicated venues designed specifically with comfort, safety and accessibility in mind.

For the opening round of screenings, matches will be shown at Sol Haveli Bar (Kaiser Palace) in Varanasi, Social in Lucknow, Unplugged Courtyard in Agra and Mambo in Kanpur. According to the organisers, all events will operate under authorised ICC and broadcaster rights, ensuring a compliant and high-quality viewing experience.

The timing of the initiative is particularly significant. India’s women’s cricket team enters the T20 World Cup with growing expectations after lifting their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2025. That triumph marked a watershed moment for women’s cricket in the country, and the current campaign presents an opportunity to build on that success by adding another global trophy.

UP Warriorz, one of the founding franchises of the Women’s Premier League, believe that fan participation plays a crucial role in sustaining this momentum. Through Fan Adda, they aim to create an atmosphere where supporters across Uttar Pradesh can collectively rally behind the national team and become part of the sport’s continuing growth story.

Speaking about the initiative, Jinisha Sharma, Director of Capri Sports, emphasised the importance of making women’s cricket accessible to a wider audience.

“Women’s cricket in India has never had more energy behind it, and we want that energy to reach every corner of Uttar Pradesh. UPW Fan Adda is about creating spaces where women and families can come together, feel at home, and cheer for a team that is making history. This is what UP Warriorz stands for – bringing the sport closer to the people it inspires most,” she said.

Kshemal Waingankar, COO and Director of Cricket at Capri Sports, echoed similar sentiments while highlighting the significance of India’s current generation of players.

“What this Indian team is building is special. They scripted history after claiming the 50-over World Cup last year, and the T20 tournament now gives them the chance to complete a legacy that will define women’s cricket for a generation. Through Fan Adda, we want fans across UP to be part of that journey – not just as spectators, but as a community that helps drive this movement forward,” he noted.

Beyond the screenings themselves, the initiative reflects a broader shift in how women’s sport is being marketed and consumed in India. Franchises are increasingly investing in fan engagement activities that extend beyond match days, recognising the importance of building long-term communities rather than simply attracting television audiences.

Creating designated viewing spaces for women and families also addresses an important aspect of sports culture by ensuring that more people can comfortably participate in major sporting occasions. Such initiatives have the potential to encourage younger fans, inspire future athletes and further strengthen the visibility of women’s cricket at the grassroots level.

For UP Warriorz, Fan Adda is also an opportunity to deepen its connection with supporters across Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s largest and most passionate sporting markets. By organising screenings in multiple cities instead of concentrating activities in a single location, the franchise is extending its reach and promoting inclusivity.

With India expected to be among the favourites in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, interest in the tournament continues to rise. The Fan Adda initiative provides supporters with an opportunity to experience that excitement collectively, turning every boundary, wicket and victory into a shared celebration.

As the national team pursues another major international title, UP Warriorz’ latest initiative demonstrates how franchises can contribute beyond the playing field by strengthening fan culture, encouraging community participation and creating meaningful experiences that support the continued rise of women’s cricket in India.
