Harpreet and Sachin Sahrawat among Five Wrestlers to win Bronze Medal at Asian Championships 2022

Indian contingent will be elated with the start their Greco-Roman wrestlers have given at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Mongolia. Greco-Roman category has never been a strong one for Indian wrestlers.

At the last championships held at Almaty Kazakhstan India failed to win even a single medal in this category. Iran has been a powerhouse in Asia winning four Gold and Two Silvers at the last championships.

At the 2020 championships held in Delhi India had won one Gold and Four Bronze Medal, that championship was also dominated by the Iranian grapplers winning five golds, one silve and two bronze medals.

Day one of the 2022 championships saw five Indian wrestlers taking the mat with four entering the medal rounds. The competition at this championships was not very high and despite India managing only two victories in the morning session it saw four wrestlers making it to the medal rounds.

In the afternoon session we saw Indian wrestlers grabbing three bronze medals with 2020 Asian Championships Bronze Medalist Arjun Halakurki defeating the local player Davaabandi 10-7 in the GR55 category.

The second bronze medal was won by Neeraj in the GR63 category wherein he got better of Bakhramov from Uzbekistan 7-4. Earlier Neeraj had suffered a heatbreaking loss against the wrestler from Kgz.

Neeraj won the second bronze Medal for India. Sunil Kumar the champion from the 2020 Asian competition who was the only wrestler apart from Arjun to get a win in the morning session got better of the local player lutbayer. He scored a very dominating win of 9-1.

Day two of the competition saw three wrestlers make it to the Bronze Medal round. Again only one wrestler made it losing the Semifinals, others reached via Repechage. Harpreet lost to a much faster Iranian 0-5 in the Semis.

Sachin Sahrawat GR67 played a superb bout defeating the Uzbek wrestler Mahmud 7-3 after trailing a major part of the second half 2-3. The last move proved to be decisive and helped India grab the fourth Bronze Medal

2019 Asian Championship Silver medalist Harpreet won Bronze as the wrestler from Qatar Jafar couldnt take the mat as he was injured. He won the fifth Bronze Medal for India thus matching the total number of medal they had won couple of years back on home turf
