Namdhari SC registered their first win of the Star Cement Indian Football League 2025-26 season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Real Kashmir FC at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar.

A well-timed second-half strike from Seilenthang Lotjem proved decisive in a contest defined by physical battles, defensive discipline, and moments of resilience.

The result sees Namdhari climb to sixth in the standings with six points from five matches, while Real Kashmir’s difficult start to the campaign continues as they remain ninth with just two points. Goalkeeper Niraj Kumar emerged as a standout performer, earning the Man of the Match award for a series of crucial interventions.

Cagey start with limited control

The match began with neither side able to establish dominance in midfield. Both teams struggled to maintain sustained possession, leading to a fragmented rhythm in the opening half. Frequent turnovers disrupted attacking flow, forcing both sides to rely heavily on set-pieces as their primary attacking outlet.

Real Kashmir looked to exploit long throw-ins and aerial deliveries into the box, while Namdhari focused on creating opportunities through free-kicks and corners. However, clear-cut chances remained scarce as both defensive units held firm.

The first notable effort came from Namdhari’s Najib Ibrahim, who tested goalkeeper Furkan Ahmad Dar with a low strike from distance. At the other end, a moment of uncertainty nearly cost the visitors when Karan Kumar Sharma’s clearance looped awkwardly towards goal, forcing Niraj Kumar into an acrobatic save to prevent an own goal.

The most significant chance of the first half fell to Real Kashmir. A poorly executed punch from Niraj Kumar following a delivery into the box allowed the ball to hang dangerously in the air. Ahteeb Ahmad Dar attempted an audacious bicycle kick that appeared destined for the net, only for Karan Sharma to produce a remarkable goal-line clearance using his chest.

It was a defining moment in the match, preserving parity and highlighting Namdhari’s defensive alertness under pressure. Despite that opportunity, neither side could find the breakthrough before halftime, and the teams went into the break locked at 0-0.

Real Kashmir push, but Namdhari strike

The hosts emerged from the interval with renewed purpose. Real Kashmir showed improved control in midfield and began to push higher up the pitch, creating more sustained pressure in the attacking third.

Their best opportunity came when Shedrack Charles unleashed a powerful effort that struck the crossbar, leaving Namdhari momentarily exposed. It was a warning sign for the visitors, who were increasingly forced onto the back foot.

However, against the run of play, Namdhari found the breakthrough in the 61st minute. Substitute Manbir Singh played a key role, delivering a precise cross to the far post. Seilenthang Lotjem, timing his run perfectly, slipped in behind the defence and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper from close range.

The goal showcased both awareness and composure, as Lotjem capitalised on a rare lapse in Real Kashmir’s defensive organisation.

Following the goal, Real Kashmir intensified their search for an equaliser. The Snow Leopards committed more bodies forward, increasing the tempo and frequency of their attacks.

Shedrack Charles remained a constant threat, forcing Niraj Kumar into a sharp save with a well-struck effort. Moments later, Kamal Issah’s free-kick took an awkward bounce in the box, but once again, the Namdhari goalkeeper reacted swiftly to keep the ball out.

Niraj Kumar’s performance proved decisive in maintaining the lead. His positioning, reflexes, and composure under pressure ensured that Namdhari remained in control despite sustained pressure from the hosts.

Real Kashmir introduced fresh legs in the closing stages, attempting to stretch the opposition defence and create openings. However, Namdhari’s defensive unit remained compact and disciplined, effectively neutralising crosses and second-ball situations.

A defining win for Namdhari

As the final whistle blew, Namdhari SC celebrated a crucial victory—one that not only secured their first win of the season but also demonstrated their ability to grind out results in challenging conditions.

For head coach Harpreet Singh, the result validates the team’s defensive structure and mental resilience, particularly in away fixtures. Having shown promise in previous matches without converting performances into wins, this victory marks an important turning point.

On the other hand, Real Kashmir’s struggles continue. Despite showing improved intent in the second half, their inability to convert chances and lapses in defensive concentration proved costly once again.

Looking ahead

For Namdhari, this win provides momentum as they look to build consistency in the coming fixtures. The combination of defensive solidity and opportunistic finishing could prove vital in their push up the table.

Real Kashmir, meanwhile, will need to address both attacking inefficiency and defensive lapses if they are to turn their season around. Returning to their home ground was expected to provide an advantage, but the inability to capitalise highlights deeper issues that require immediate attention.

In the end, it was a match decided by fine margins—one moment of quality from Seilenthang Lotjem, and a resilient defensive display led by Niraj Kumar, proved enough to separate the two sides in Srinagar.
