The Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Season 7 Auction highlighted a significant shift in Indian table tennis.

While international stars have traditionally dominated franchise strategies, this year's auction reflected growing confidence in India's own talent pool, with franchises aggressively bidding for homegrown players who have consistently delivered on both the domestic and international stages. The growing success of Indian paddlers on the WTT circuit, combined with impressive performances at continental and world-level events, has dramatically increased their market value. Franchises were prepared to invest heavily in players capable of delivering across singles, doubles and mixed doubles formats, making this one of the most competitive auctions in UTT history.

With Butterfly UTT Season 7 scheduled to be held from July 9 to 26 at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Goa, these five Indian paddlers enter the tournament with soaring reputations and equally impressive auction price tags.

For the second consecutive season, Diya Chitale emerged as the highest-valued Indian player at the Butterfly UTT auction. Entering the auction with a base price of 12 lakh tokens, Diya eventually secured a winning bid of 37.4 lakh tokens, representing an increase of over 211 percent. The investment is hardly surprising.

Over the past year, Diya has firmly established herself among India's leading women paddlers while also becoming one-half of one of the country's most successful mixed doubles partnerships. Alongside Manush Shah, she became the first Indian pair to qualify for the prestigious WTT Finals, a landmark achievement for Indian table tennis. The duo currently holds the World No. 6 ranking in mixed doubles, underlining their consistency on the international circuit.

Her performances in UTT have been equally impressive. Across the previous two seasons, Diya has won eight of her twelve women's singles matches, making her one of the league's most dependable performers.

The PBG Pune Jaguars will now look to build their campaign around one of India's most reliable stars.

Manush Shah India's Doubles Specialist

If Diya was the biggest Indian attraction, Manush Shah was not far behind. The defending champions U Mumba TT secured his services for 37.2 lakh tokens, more than tripling his 12 lakh token base price. The dramatic rise reflects Manush's exceptional progress over the last year. In addition to qualifying for the WTT Finals with Diya Chitale, he has established himself among the world's finest doubles players.

Currently ranked World No. 5 in men's doubles alongside Manav Thakkar, Manush has become one of India's biggest assets in team competitions.

His UTT record further explains the intense bidding.

Across six seasons, he has featured in 23 matches and owns an outstanding doubles record, winning nine of his eleven doubles contests. His perfect 6-0 doubles record during Season 5 remains one of the finest performances by an Indian player in league history.

With U Mumba aiming to defend its title, Manush will once again be central to their ambitions.

Few stories from the auction were as satisfying as that of Syndrela Das. After going unsold during the Season 6 auction, the young Indian returned this year to command 17 lakh tokens, more than doubling her 7 lakh token base price. The rise reflects the tremendous progress Syndrela has made over the past twelve months.

Still in her teenage years, she has developed into one of India's brightest women's prospects through consistent performances against senior international opponents. Her rapid improvement earned her selection for the 2026 World Team Table Tennis Championships and India's squad for the 2026 Asian Games. Recognising her growing potential, Dempo Goa Challengers battled aggressively to secure her signature.

Playing in front of home supporters, Syndrela will have an ideal opportunity to justify the confidence shown in her.

Former World Junior No. 1 Payas Jain continues to establish himself among India's future stars. The youngster attracted a winning bid of 16.8 lakh tokens, representing a 140 percent increase over his 7 lakh token base price. Payas has enjoyed an outstanding season.

He collected two gold medals and one silver at the WTT Feeder Vadodara, followed by several strong international performances that propelled him to a career-high World No. 104. His domestic performances have been equally impressive. Payas played an important role in India's team gold medal at the 2025 Senior National Championships while also capturing men's singles titles at the National Ranking Championships in Ranchi and Panchkula.

Now representing the Ahmedabad APL Pipers, he will partner experienced Indian star Manika Batra, giving the franchise an exciting blend of youth and experience.

No Indian player generated greater excitement during the auction than Divyanshi Bhowmick. At just 15 years of age, she became the youngest player ever signed in Butterfly UTT history. Starting with a base price of only 3 lakh tokens, Divyanshi eventually secured an impressive 10.4 lakh tokens, representing a remarkable 246.6 percent increase the biggest percentage rise among all Indian players. The interest was driven by an extraordinary breakthrough season.

Divyanshi created history by winning the U15 girls' singles title at the 2025 Asian Junior Championships, becoming the first Indian in 36 years to achieve the feat. She later added a bronze medal at the World Youth Championships before announcing herself on the senior international stage by winning her maiden title at the WTT Feeder Prishtina 2026.

She also currently holds the World No. 1 ranking in U17 girls' doubles alongside Syndrela Das. Recognising her enormous long-term potential, Dabang Delhi TTC acted decisively to secure one of Indian table tennis' brightest young stars.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the Butterfly UTT Season 7 auction is not simply the individual prices but what they represent. Indian players are no longer viewed merely as supporting cast alongside international stars. They have become franchise centrepieces capable of deciding matches and winning championships.

As the league prepares to begin in Goa on July 9, all eyes will be on these five paddlers. Their performances over the past year have already transformed their market value.

Now comes the opportunity to prove that those investments were fully justified on the UTT stage.
