Syndrela Das Advances to Europe Smash Round of 16 in Women’s Doubles With Tatiana Kukuľková

Sixteen-year-old Syndrela Das continued her impressive run at the WTT Europe Smash 2026 after partnering Slovakia’s Tatiana Kukuľková to defeat Chile’s Ortega and Vega 3-1 in the opening round of the women’s doubles competition.
The India-Slovakia combination prevailed 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, and 11-1 to book their place in the Round of 16 at one of the most prestigious events on the international table tennis calendar. For Das, the result adds another significant milestone to a tournament that has already tested her in multiple ways. The teenager came through qualifying in singles before narrowly missing out on a place in the women's singles main draw and has now transferred that competitive momentum into the doubles event.
Das and Kukuľková made an excellent start to their women's doubles campaign. The pair immediately took control of the opening game, winning it 11-4 and putting the Chilean combination under pressure. Ortega and Vega, ranked 29th in the world as a doubles pair, responded in the second game. The Chileans raised their level and managed to even the contest with an 11-8 victory.
With the match level at 1-1, the third game became crucial. Das and Kukuľková handled the pressure effectively, edging the third game 11-9 to regain the lead. Their ability to win the closely contested game proved decisive, as they entered the fourth with momentum firmly on their side.
The final game was one-way traffic. The Indian-Slovakian pair dominated from the beginning and conceded just one point on their way to an emphatic 11-1 finish. The 3-1 victory secured their progression to the Round of 16 and marked an impressive start to their campaign against a higher-ranked international combination.
Das's progress in women's doubles comes after a demanding singles campaign. The 16-year-old began her Europe Smash journey in the qualifying rounds and produced a notable comeback against Loy Ming Ying in her opening qualifying match. Das fought back from an early deficit to win the contest 3-2, demonstrating her ability to remain composed during a difficult match.
She then continued her qualifying run before facing compatriot Diya Chitale in the final qualifying round. Chitale eventually prevailed 8-11, 11-2, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6, ending Das's singles qualification campaign and advancing to the main draw. Although Das missed out on the women's singles main draw, the experience of competing against strong opposition in qualifying has clearly provided valuable match practice.
She now has another opportunity to make her mark in Sweden through doubles.
The partnership with Tatiana Kukuľková brings together players from two different national systems, making their progress particularly interesting. Doubles requires rapid communication and understanding, especially when players have had limited time to establish combinations. Despite that challenge, Das and Kukuľková were able to recover from losing the second game and close out the match convincingly.
Their response after the 8-11 second-game loss was particularly impressive. Instead of allowing the Chilean pair to dictate the contest, they immediately regained control and produced a 3-1 victory. The fourth-game performance, in which they won 11-1, underlined the level of dominance they were able to achieve once they found their rhythm.

Having cleared the opening hurdle, Das and Kukuľková will now turn their attention to the Round of 16. The challenge will become progressively tougher as the tournament moves deeper into the draw, but their opening performance provides reason for optimism. The pair demonstrated strong starts, recovered well after dropping the second game and finished the match with an emphatic final game.
For Das, the objective will now be to carry that momentum forward. Her Europe Smash campaign has already included a comeback victory in singles qualifying, a competitive battle against compatriot Diya Chitale and now a successful doubles debut alongside Kukuľková.
