Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC played out a 0-0 draw in the ISL 2026-27 as Adrian Luna missed a penalty, Irfan Yadwad hit the crossbar and Amrinder Singh produced crucial saves.

Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC shared the points after playing out a fiercely contested 0-0 draw at Marina Arena in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 on Saturday, October 31.

In Chennaiyin's first home appearance of the season, both teams created opportunities to secure all three points, but missed chances, goalkeeping interventions and defensive resilience ensured neither side found the breakthrough.

Kerala Blasters captain Adrian Luna had the clearest opportunity to put his team ahead when he missed a penalty in the 49th minute, striking the woodwork after sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Chennaiyin's Irfan Yadwad came agonisingly close at the other end in the 69th minute, while Amrinder Singh produced a decisive save in the closing stages to deny the hosts a potential winner.

The match also ended dramatically, with both teams reduced to 10 players after Andre Green and Imanishimwe were sent off following a stoppage-time altercation.

Both sides began with intensity, pressing high and looking to exploit opportunities through quick transitions. The physical nature of the contest was evident from the opening exchanges, with Chennaiyin attempting to use their attacking movement to put the Kerala defence under pressure.

The hosts created the first significant opportunity in the 31st minute. Madih Talal showed excellent awareness to step over the ball, cut inside and unleash a curling right-footed effort. Amrinder Singh reacted quickly, pushing the shot away to prevent Chennaiyin from taking the lead.

Four minutes later, Ramon Tanque found Yadwad inside the penalty area. The Chennaiyin forward struck powerfully from the right, but Amrinder was again equal to the challenge, producing another important save.

Kerala Blasters struggled to turn their attacking transitions into clear opportunities during this period. They attempted to respond with crosses into the box, but Chennaiyin's defensive organisation ensured that the visitors could not capitalise.

Despite Chennaiyin finishing the half with successive attacking moves, neither team managed to break the deadlock. The sides went into the interval at 0-0, with the contest still wide open.

Luna misses from the penalty spot

Kerala Blasters began the second half with greater attacking intent and introduced Sumit Singh for Hormipam Ruivah at the restart.

The visitors soon earned an opportunity to take the lead. Luna delivered a cross towards Mohammad Sanan, who was brought down by Yadwad. During the incident, the ball struck the Chennaiyin winger's arm as he attempted to protest his innocence, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Luna stepped up to take responsibility. The Kerala captain paused briefly before his run-up, sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and appeared to have executed the penalty perfectly. However, his effort struck the woodwork and rolled away from danger.

It was a major let-off for Chennaiyin, who had been under pressure at the start of the second half.

Kerala continued to attack, and Andre Green came close to making an impact in the 54th minute. Receiving a through ball, Green carried possession forward on a quick break before unleashing a left-footed effort. Mohammad Nawaz produced an important save to keep the scores level.

As the intensity increased, both teams became involved in several physical exchanges and confrontations, reflecting the importance of the fixture.

Chennaiyin made two changes around the hour mark, bringing on Lalhriatpuia Chawnghtu for Ayush Chhetri and S Prakadeswaran for Brison Fernandes. The hosts gradually regained attacking momentum, and Yadwad nearly produced the decisive moment in the 69th minute. Showing individual quality, he attempted to guide a right-footed effort across Amrinder Singh. The goalkeeper was beaten by the trajectory, but the ball struck the top-right corner of the crossbar and stayed out.

Kerala made further attacking changes in the 77th minute, introducing Vibin Mohanan for Korou Singh and MS Sreekuttan for Sanan. Luna was subsequently replaced by Momo Yansane in the 82nd minute as the visitors looked for fresh attacking options.

Chennaiyin also reshuffled their forward line in the 87th minute, with Bryce Miranda and Dippendu Biswas replacing Tanque and Bhutia.

The hosts came closest to snatching victory in the 89th minute. Chennaiyin intercepted a Kerala set-piece routine and immediately launched a counter-attack. Miranda played an incisive through ball towards Yadwad, who attempted to finish with a chip.

Amrinder, however, produced another outstanding intervention, denying the forward and preserving Kerala's clean sheet. The match ended in further controversy during the second minute of stoppage time. A physical altercation broke out between players, resulting in Green and Imanishimwe receiving marching orders.

It was the final major incident of a contest that had been played at considerable intensity from beginning to end.

For Chennaiyin, the draw marked a competitive first home outing, although Yadwad's crossbar effort and the late one-on-one opportunity will leave the hosts wondering what might have been. Kerala Blasters will also reflect on a missed opportunity to claim their first victory from the fixture, particularly after Luna's penalty struck the woodwork.

Ultimately, the goalkeepers played decisive roles. Amrinder's interventions against Talal, Yadwad and Chennaiyin's late counter-attack were central to Kerala securing a point, while Nawaz's save against Green ensured the visitors could not take advantage of their second-half pressure.

In a match that featured a missed penalty, two efforts against the woodwork, several crucial saves and two stoppage-time dismissals, neither side could find the finishing touch. Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC therefore had to settle for a point apiece.
