India enjoyed a productive second day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, combining three medals in shooting with strong performances across hockey, kabaddi, table tennis, boxing and MMA.

The day brought silver for the Indian men’s 10m air rifle team, individual bronze medals for Rudrankksh Patil and Himanshu Dhillon, and a historic bronze for Suchika Tariyal in MMA. Away from the medal events, India’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams recorded convincing victories, while the women’s hockey team produced another huge scoreline.

With several disciplines still to come, Day 2 underlined the breadth of India’s medal challenge in Aichi-Nagoya.

The biggest medal haul of the day came from the shooting range. India’s trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane combined for a score of 1890.1 to win silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event. China claimed gold with 1899, while Korea took bronze with 1884.2.

The Indian performance also translated into individual success. Himanshu Dhillon won bronze with a score of 230.9 in the individual final, while Rudrankksh Patil also secured bronze after recording 252.4. The medals added another successful chapter to India’s strong shooting campaign at the Asian Games.

The qualification round had already seen Rudrankksh and Himanshu make the individual final, with the duo eventually converting that qualification into individual podium finishes.

Suchika Tariyal makes MMA history

India also secured a historic medal in a sport making its Asian Games debut. Suchika Tariyal won bronze in the women’s 60kg MMA category, becoming India’s first-ever Asian Games medallist in Mixed Martial Arts. Tariyal’s campaign ended with a 0-2 semifinal defeat, but reaching the last four had already guaranteed her a medal.

Her bronze represents a landmark for Indian MMA and adds another combat-sports medal to India’s Day 2 tally.

India’s women’s hockey team once again produced an emphatic performance, defeating Indonesia 17-1 in their Pool B encounter. After opening the tournament with a 19-0 victory, India followed it with another double-digit scoreline. The result means India have now scored 36 goals across their first two matches, while conceding just one.

The Indian attack continued to operate at a high level, with Deepika, Navneet Kaur and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal among the players making significant contributions. The match also marked a major individual milestone for goalkeeper Savita, who became the most-capped Indian woman hockey player with her 321st senior international appearance.

Both Indian kabaddi teams also enjoyed successful outings. The men’s team defeated Japan 49-25 in their Group A match. India controlled the contest from the opening half and built a substantial advantage before Japan improved after the break.

The women’s team also registered a convincing victory, defeating Bangladesh 42-21. The results give both Indian teams positive starts to their respective campaigns as they continue their pursuit of Asian Games gold.

India’s boxing campaign also produced a positive result as Sumit Kundu secured a 5-0 victory in his bout. The unanimous decision saw Kundu progress in the competition and added another successful result for the Indian boxing contingent. With the boxing programme continuing through the Games, the victory provides Kundu with momentum as he moves into the next stage of the competition.

India’s table tennis teams also produced identical results, with both securing 3-0 victories over Pakistan. The Indian women’s team defeated Pakistan 3-0, while the men’s team also completed a 3-0 win. The results keep both teams firmly in contention as the team competitions progress, with the Indian paddlers looking to challenge for medals against a highly competitive Asian field.

Swimming produces a finalist

There was also an encouraging performance in the swimming pool. Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men’s 50m backstroke final after finishing joint-ninth in the heats with a time of 25.37 seconds. Rishabh Das finished 11th in 25.41 seconds and was listed as the first reserve.

Elsewhere, India’s men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team finished ninth, narrowly missing out on the final. The quartet of Aneesh Gowda, Sajan Prakash, Vedaant Madhavan and Dhakshan Shashikumar clocked 7:24.3, just outside the qualification places.

India’s Day 2 campaign featured medals, historic milestones and convincing team performances.

The shooting contingent led the medal charge with three medals, while Suchika Tariyal created history in MMA. The hockey and kabaddi teams continued their strong starts, table tennis produced two clean sweeps, and Sumit Kundu advanced in boxing.

With shooting, hockey, kabaddi, badminton, cricket, wushu, swimming, table tennis and several other sports continuing across the Games, India’s campaign remains spread across a wide range of disciplines.

Day 2 therefore delivered a combination of podium finishes and momentum-building performances — setting the stage for an even busier Day 3 at Aichi-Nagoya.
