Bengaluru FC begin their 2026–27 ISL campaign against Sporting Club Delhi at the Fortress, with Pep Muñoz targeting a winning start after a fourth-place finish last season.

Bengaluru FC will begin their 2026–27 Indian Super League campaign at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, October 10, with head coach Pep Muñoz aiming to translate a productive pre-season into an immediate result against Sporting Club Delhi.

The fixture will be a landmark occasion for the club, marking the first time Bengaluru hosts the opening match of an ISL season. With the league returning to a full home-and-away format, the Blues will be keen to establish early momentum in front of their home supporters. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 pm IST, with Bengaluru looking to build on a fourth-place finish last season and start the new campaign with three points.

The Blues finished fourth last season, collecting 23 points from 13 matches. Their record of six wins, five draws and two defeats reflected a competitive campaign, which they closed with a 2–1 victory over Chennaiyin FC. That result provides a foundation for the new season, but Muñoz and his squad now face the challenge of maintaining consistency across a fresh campaign. Saturday’s home fixture offers an opportunity to establish confidence early, particularly with the Fortress set to host the league’s opening game for the first time.

The return of the full home-and-away format places added importance on turning home fixtures into reliable sources of points. Bengaluru will hope the support from the stands can help them impose themselves against a Delhi side that arrives with competitive match experience from two recent tournaments. Muñoz has acknowledged the challenge posed by the visitors and believes patience will be essential.

“It's been a long pre-season, and we are very excited that the league is finally starting. Delhi is a really strong opponent, and it will be a tough game. They have the rhythm of competition after playing two competitions recently, and they have some really good foreign and local players,” the Bengaluru head coach said. “We know it will be a difficult game, so we need to be patient and manage it well. But we play at home, we have confidence in our preparation, and I feel we are ready to compete.”

New signings strengthen the squad.

Bengaluru have added several overseas players as they seek to strengthen their options across the pitch. Spanish forward Borja Martínez and Montenegrin attacker Mihailo Perović provide additional attacking choices, while Argentine midfielder Manuel de Iriondo adds experience in the middle of the park. Dutch centre-back Menno Koch and Portuguese defender Sandro Embaló further reinforce the defensive unit.

Their integration will be an important storyline in the opening weeks. The challenge for Muñoz will be ensuring that the new arrivals adapt quickly to the team's playing principles and establish an understanding with the players who remain from last season. Alongside the overseas additions, Bengaluru have secured contract extensions for young Indian players Soham Varshneya, Vinith Venkatesh and Harsh Palande. Retaining these players provides continuity as the club looks to develop its domestic core.

Captain Sunil Chhetri has also extended his stay for the 2026–27 season. His experience and leadership remain valuable assets as Bengaluru navigate the demands of a new campaign. For Muñoz, this will be his first full season in charge. Having taken over last season and guided the Blues to fourth place, he now has the opportunity to shape the team over a complete campaign, with the pre-season serving as a period to reinforce his tactical expectations.

Suresh Wangjam highlights the value of preparation.

Midfielder Suresh Wangjam believes the pre-season has helped the squad develop a clearer understanding of the coach's demands ahead of the opener. “After a long and good pre-season, we’re excited to finally get the league underway. We got to know each other and understand what the coach wants from us during this time,” Wangjam said.

The midfielder stressed that the immediate objective is to deliver a strong performance and secure a positive result. “We are really excited for the first game against Delhi and want to start the season strongly. It’s important for us to give everything and get a positive result in our first game.”

Wangjam's comments underline the importance of translating preparation into competitive execution. With new players joining an established squad, the opening fixture will provide an early assessment of how effectively Bengaluru have developed cohesion during their pre-season.

Sporting Club Delhi will arrive with the benefit of recent competitive action, something Muñoz has identified as a potential advantage for the visitors. Their foreign and Indian players will test Bengaluru's organisation, while the hosts must balance attacking ambition with the patience required to break down a prepared opponent.

The Blues will need to manage possession intelligently, avoid unnecessary errors and make effective use of their attacking options. Just as importantly, they must maintain concentration against a Delhi team that has already experienced competitive match situations in recent weeks.

A strong opening performance would give Muñoz a platform to build on as the campaign progresses.

Bengaluru FC have made tickets available from ₹99, offering supporters an accessible opportunity to attend the first fixture of the new ISL season. For the club, Saturday represents more than the start of another campaign. It is an opportunity to open the season at home, reward supporters with a positive performance and establish the foundations for a sustained challenge.

Muñoz has made his priorities clear: respect the opponent, manage the contest patiently and use home advantage effectively. The Blues now have the chance to turn that preparation into results when the whistle sounds at the Fortress.
