Mumbai Mozartt continue winning momentum
Mumbai Mozartt once again showed composure under pressure as they secured a dramatic 14-13 victory over Century Warriors.
Century Warriors began the tie strongly, with experienced paddlers Santosh Wakradkar and Anish Sontakke giving their side early momentum through identical 2-1 victories in the veterans’ category. Their performances allowed Century Warriors to establish an initial lead and put pressure on Mumbai Mozartt. However, Mumbai gradually fought their way back into the contest.
Shreya Deshpande played a key role in shifting momentum when she defeated Sampada Bhiwandkar 2-1 in the women’s singles. The victory helped stabilise Mumbai’s challenge and sparked a strong response from the rest of the lineup. The U-17 mixed doubles combination of Ishan Khandekar and Divyanshi Bhowmick then delivered an important win, while Aakarshan Yadav followed it up with another positive result in the cadet boys’ singles to bring the scores level once again.
One of the standout performances of the tie came from Divyanshi Bhowmick in the junior girls’ singles. The talented youngster completely dominated Naisha Rewaskar, securing a commanding 3-0 victory that ultimately proved decisive in Mumbai Mozartt’s narrow overall triumph.
The 14-13 result highlighted the team’s balance across categories and their ability to deliver in pressure situations. Mumbai Mozartt have now emerged as one of the strongest early contenders in the competition with consecutive close wins showing both depth and temperament.
After a relatively quiet opening day, PBG Pune Jaguars responded strongly on Day 2 by collecting two important victories. Their first success came against Bayside Spinners TTC in a 15-12 win built around consistent performances across categories. Veteran player Amol Sarode gave Pune the perfect start with a dominant 3-0 victory over Ketan Palvankar in the veterans’ singles. The clean sweep immediately placed pressure on Bayside and allowed Pune to dictate the pace of the tie.
Bayside attempted to fight back through Jash Modi, who managed to keep his side competitive, but Pune continued to find answers at critical moments. Senhora Dsouza ensured Pune retained control of the contest, while several younger players chipped in with valuable game wins throughout the tie. The collective effort eventually helped PBG Pune Jaguars close out a 15-12 victory and build momentum heading into their second fixture of the day.
Against NPV Smashers, Pune once again made a strong start, particularly in the veterans’ category where they established an early advantage. Reeth Rishya emerged as one of the central figures of the tie. She first secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Shweta Parte in the women’s singles before returning for the mixed doubles alongside Neil Mulye. The pair produced one of the most dominant performances of the day, defeating Sagar Kasture and Shweta Parte 3-0 in the mixed doubles encounter. Their clinical display proved vital as Pune eventually edged out NPV Smashers 14-13 in another nail-biting finish.
The back-to-back victories marked a major turnaround for PBG Pune Jaguars and significantly strengthened their position in the standings after the opening two days.
Elsewhere, Century Warriors bounced back from their narrow defeat to Mumbai Mozartt by producing a convincing 16-11 victory over defending champions Phantom Stars. Ping Panthers also registered an important win, defeating Jolly Friends Sports Club 15-12 in another closely fought encounter.
One of the biggest talking points of the opening two days has been the league’s innovative format, which places equal importance on every category and every game. The structure has allowed young paddlers, veterans, and mixed doubles specialists to all play decisive roles in shaping results. Several emerging names have already grabbed attention, particularly youngsters like Divyanshi Bhowmick, Aakarshan Yadav, and Reeth Rishya, who delivered key performances under pressure.
With multiple ties being decided by a single point, the Butterfly TTSL Maharashtra 2026 has already showcased the growing depth and competitiveness of table tennis at the state level.
As the tournament progresses, teams will look to build consistency while managing the demands of a format where momentum can swing rapidly. After Day 2, Mumbai Mozartt’s unbeaten run and PBG Pune Jaguars’ resurgence have added further intrigue to what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested league.
