India’s shuttlers make a winning start at the BWF World Junior Championships 2026 in Cairo, with Tanvi Patri, Shaina Manimuthu and others advancing.

India’s campaign at the BWF World Junior Championships 2026 got off to an impressive start in Cairo, Egypt, with every Indian player featured in the opening-day results securing victory and progressing to the next round.

The young shuttlers delivered a series of composed performances across the men’s and women’s Under-19 singles competitions, combining emphatic straight-game wins with hard-fought victories.

Tanvi Patri, Shaina Manimuthu, Tanvi Reddy Andluri and Parul Choudhary led the women’s singles charge, while Akhil Reddy Bobba, Nishchal, Jagsher Singh Khangurra and Dev Ruparelia ensured a strong start for the Indian boys.

The results provide early encouragement for India at a tournament that brings together some of the leading emerging badminton talents from around the world.

Tanvi Patri began her women’s singles Under-19 campaign with a straight-game victory over Hsin Yu Huang of Chinese Taipei in the Round of 128. Patri won 15-12, 15-11, maintaining her composure through two competitive games to secure progression.

The result adds to an encouraging run for the Indian youngster, who has emerged as one of the country’s leading prospects in women’s singles. Patri recently won the Polytron Pontianak International Challenge and the Asian U-17 title within a two-week period, establishing herself as a player to watch at the junior level. Her ability to manage closely contested games will be particularly valuable as the competition advances and the standard of opposition rises.

Shaina Manimuthu produced one of the most dominant performances of the day. Facing Uganda’s Claire Namirembe in the same round, Shaina conceded only six points across two games, winning 15-3, 15-3.

Fresh from winning the Badminton Asia U-15 title and claiming bronze at the Dutch Junior International, Shaina carried her recent form into the world championships. The one-sided scoreline reflected her control of the contest and gave her a convincing entry into the next round.

Tanvi Reddy Andluri also progressed comfortably, defeating Canada’s Brindha Bharathi Raja 15-10, 15-5. After a relatively competitive opening game, Andluri strengthened her control in the second to complete the victory in straight games.

Parul Choudhary enjoyed a particularly productive day, winning two matches to move through the early rounds of the women’s singles draw.

She began in the Round of 256 against Spain’s Iziar Barcala, securing a 15-11, 15-5 victory. Choudhary followed it with another assured performance in the Round of 128, defeating Brazil’s Laura Roviezzo 15-7, 15-7.

Winning twice in a single day demands concentration and the ability to recover quickly between matches. Choudhary handled both assignments in straight games, completing her double-header without dropping a game.

Her progress adds to India’s positive start in the women’s singles competition, with the country’s representatives collectively demonstrating consistency across different match situations.

Akhil Reddy Bobba Wins a Closely Contested Match

India’s boys also delivered a strong set of results, beginning with Akhil Reddy Bobba’s victory over Malaysia’s Wei Jie Tiew in the Under-19 men’s singles Round of 128.

Bobba won 15-12, 15-12 in a contest in which both games remained competitive. Unlike some of India’s more one-sided victories, this match required the Indian shuttler to maintain his advantage through the closing stages of each game.

Securing the two-game win without allowing the contest to extend further was an important outcome as Bobba moved into the next round.

Nishchal was another Indian player to win twice during the opening stages of the tournament. He started in the Round of 256 with a commanding 15-4, 15-6 victory over Saudi Arabia’s Rayan Almukhimer. Returning for his Round of 128 encounter, Nishchal defeated Portugal’s Cesar Rodrigues 15-7, 15-12.

The second match proved more competitive, particularly in the closing stages of the second game, but Nishchal maintained control to complete another straight-game victory.

Like Choudhary in the women’s draw, Nishchal’s ability to navigate two matches successfully made him one of India’s notable performers on the opening day.

Jagsher Singh Khangurra produced a dominant performance against Algeria’s Mohamed Rayane Bouffeniche, winning 15-5, 15-6. The Indian controlled both games and progressed without allowing his opponent to establish a sustained challenge. Dev Ruparelia completed India’s successful day with an equally emphatic result against Algeria’s Oussama Keddou. Ruparelia won 15-5, 15-4, finishing the contest with one of the most decisive scorelines among the reported Indian results.

Both players advanced in straight games, reinforcing the strength of India’s start in the boys’ singles competition.

India Looks to Build on Its Opening-Day Momentum

India’s opening-day results in Cairo offered several positives: Patri continued her promising run, Shaina delivered a commanding victory, Choudhary and Nishchal negotiated two matches apiece, and the boys’ singles contingent produced a series of convincing wins.

The results also demonstrated different qualities across the squad. Some players dominated from the outset, while others, including Patri and Bobba, had to negotiate closer contests.

However, the opening rounds are only the beginning of the world championships. The challenge will become progressively tougher as the remaining players advance, making consistency, recovery and tactical adaptability increasingly important.

For now, India has made the ideal start at the BWF World Junior Championships 2026. With every Indian player featured in the supplied opening-day results winning and progressing, the team can approach the next round with confidence and the opportunity to build further momentum in Cairo.
