Neeraj Chopra, Lovlina Borgohain, Tejaswin Shankar and India's boxers headline a busy Day 9 schedule at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

India enters another crucial day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 with medal opportunities spread across multiple disciplines as the competition reaches its business end in Glasgow.

With just a few days remaining before the Games conclude on August 2, Indian athletes will be in action across athletics, boxing, judo, bowls and track cycling on Friday, hoping to strengthen the country's position in the medal standings.

The spotlight will firmly be on Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who begins his quest for another major international title in the men's javelin throw final. Alongside him, India's formidable boxing contingent will have several athletes competing in the semifinals, guaranteeing at least bronze medals while aiming to book places in the gold medal bouts.

Athletics will also feature an important day for decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, who continues his battle across five demanding events before concluding his competition with the 1500m.

The biggest attraction of the day comes late in the evening when Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav, and Yash Vir Singh compete in the men's javelin throw final, one of India's strongest medal prospects at the Games.

Neeraj enters the competition as the overwhelming favourite, carrying an exceptional record that includes Olympic and World Championship success. With his recent consistency beyond the 90-metre mark, expectations will once again be high for India's biggest athletics star.

Joining him are Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh, giving India three representatives in the medal event. Earlier in the day, Tejaswin Shankar resumes his decathlon campaign with the 110m hurdles, followed by the discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and finally the 1500m, which concludes the gruelling ten-event competition.

India will also field a team in the mixed 4x400m relay heats, where Vishal TK, Rajesh Ramesh, Rashdeep Kaur, Ansa Babu and Neeru Pathak will look to secure qualification for the next round.

The athletics programme concludes with another medal opportunity as Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan compete in the men's 400m hurdles final.

Boxing promises to be one of India's busiest sports on Day 9, with nine Indian pugilists entering the ring in semifinal bouts. A victory in any semifinal guarantees progression to the gold medal match, while even defeat ensures a bronze medal under boxing competition rules. The action begins with Preeti Pawar facing Zambia's Catherine Mwape in the women's 54 kg semifinal.

Later in the afternoon, Ankush Panghal takes on Canada's Joshua Ofori in the men's 80kg division. The evening session features an exciting lineup beginning with Jaismine Lamboria against Lesotho's Rapelang Maselela in the women's 57kg category, followed immediately by Arundhati Choudhary, who faces Wales' Rosie Eccles in the women's 70kg semifinals.

India's Jadumani Singh Mandengbam will contest the men's 55kg semifinal against Namibia's Philip Haoseb.

The late-night session includes several of India's biggest medal hopes. Sakshi Chaudhary meets Canada's Amber-Jane Wall in the women's 51kg semifinal, while Priya Ghanghas takes on England's Lucy Kings-Wheatley in the 60kg category. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain will enter the ring in the women's 75kg semifinal against Tarona Taafaki of Tuvalu, carrying expectations of reaching another major final.

The day's boxing schedule concludes with Sachin Siwach facing Wales' Owain Harris-Allan in the men's 60kg semifinal before heavyweight Narender Berwal takes on Nigel Paul of Trinidad and Tobago in the men's +90kg category.

India will also have a packed schedule in judo, where several athletes begin their campaigns in the preliminary rounds. Harsh Singh starts in the men's -60kg Round of 16 against Malawi's Chikondi Kathewera. Shraddha Chopade faces Jane Massaquoi of Sierra Leone in the women's -52kg category, while Rohit Majgul takes on Mozambique's Samuel Ribeiro in the men's -66kg competition.

India's medal hopes also rest with Asmita Dey, who begins directly in the women's -48kg quarterfinal against Scotland's Eva Ewing, and Yamini Mourya, who will contest the women's -57kg quarterfinal. Should the Indian judokas advance through their respective brackets, they will return later in the evening for the medal rounds.

India's impressive campaign in lawn bowls continues with two important matches. The men's pairs team of Dinesh Kumar and Navneet Singh will face the Falkland Islands in their fourth sectional match, while Nayanmoni Saikia competes against Zambia's Mildred Mkandawire in the women's singles.

Meanwhile, track cycling promises another action-packed day. Dinesh Kumar and Harshveer Singh Sekhon begin with qualification for the men's 4000m individual pursuit, with potential appearances later in the bronze or gold medal finals depending on qualification.

Sprint specialist Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, alongside David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Jemsh Keithellakpam, will contest the opening round of the men's Keirin, aiming to progress through the repechages and into the medal races.

The final cycling medal opportunity of the day comes in the men's elimination race, where Harshveer Singh Sekhon will compete for Commonwealth honours.

With Olympic champions, world medallists and emerging stars all in action, Day 9 promises to be one of India's busiest and most important days at the Commonwealth Games.

Neeraj Chopra's javelin final headlines the schedule, but boxing could deliver multiple finalists, while athletics, judo, bowls and cycling provide further medal opportunities.

As Glasgow enters the final stretch of competition, every medal becomes increasingly significant. India will hope its experienced stars continue to deliver while the next generation rises to the occasion, ensuring another successful day in its Commonwealth Games campaign.
