When Commonwealth Sport officially announced that India’s vibrant Gujarati metropolis would host the 100-year centenary edition of the Games in 2030, sports fans worldwide noticed a distinct stylistic choice in the official branding: Amdavad 2030, rather than the more internationally familiar Ahmedabad.

   Historical Evolution: Founded in 1411 CE by Sultan Ahmed Shah, the city's formal Persian/Arabic-derived name evolved naturally through centuries of spoken Gujarati into the affectionate, colloquial Amdavad.
