Divyanshi Bhowmick Stuns Top Seed to Win Maiden Senior WTT Singles Title in Prishtina

Indian table tennis witnessed another breakthrough moment on the international stage as teenage sensation Divyanshi Bhowmick captured her maiden senior singles title at the WTT Feeder Prishtina 2026 in Kosovo.
The reigning U15 Asian champion produced a remarkable week of performances, defeating a series of higher-ranked opponents before overcoming top seed Yeh Yi-Tian in a thrilling five-game final. Ranked World No. 211 entering the tournament, Divyanshi delivered one of the most impressive runs by an Indian youngster in recent months, showcasing maturity, consistency and fearless attacking play against experienced opposition.
The title marks the first senior singles crown of her career and further strengthens her reputation as one of India's brightest table tennis prospects.
Divyanshi entered the tournament without the spotlight that often follows higher-ranked players. However, by the end of the week, she had emerged as the standout performer of the competition. The Indian youngster saved her best performance for the final, where she faced tournament top seed and World No. 38 Yeh Yi-Tian.
Despite the significant ranking gap, Divyanshi never looked intimidated. She took the opening game 11-6 before Yeh responded by winning the second 11-9. The final quickly evolved into a battle of momentum, with both players exchanging games. Divyanshi regained control by taking the third game 11-7, only for the top seed to level the match again with an 11-8 fourth-game victory.
With the title on the line, the Indian teenager delivered under pressure. Displaying composure beyond her years, Divyanshi dominated the decider 11-6 to seal a memorable victory and claim the biggest title of her young career.
The final was merely the culmination of an extraordinary week in Prishtina. Divyanshi's journey to the title featured victories over multiple higher-ranked opponents, underlining the quality of her performance throughout the tournament. Her campaign began with a difficult opening-round clash against fellow Indian and World No. 132 Swastika Ghosh.
The match went the distance, but Divyanshi held her nerve to secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory and advance to the Round of 16. The result immediately signalled that she was capable of challenging stronger opponents.
If the opening round tested her resilience, the subsequent rounds highlighted her growing confidence. In the Round of 16, Divyanshi produced one of the most dominant performances of the tournament, defeating World No. 66 Yashaswini Ghorpade in straight games. The 3-0 victory was particularly impressive given the ranking difference and demonstrated her ability to control matches against experienced competitors.
She continued her run in the quarterfinals by defeating Japan's Sachi Aoki, ranked World No. 104. Once again, Divyanshi displayed excellent tactical awareness and composure to secure a 3-1 victory and book her place in the semifinals.
The win over Aoki further reinforced the feeling that something special was unfolding.
By the time Divyanshi reached the semifinals, she had already exceeded expectations. Yet she delivered arguably her most dominant performance before the final against Australia's Minhyung Jee, ranked World No. 64. Rather than showing signs of fatigue after a demanding week, the Indian teenager elevated her game once again.
She swept aside the Australian 3-0 in a commanding display, securing her place in the championship match without dropping a game. The victory ensured that she would face the tournament's highest-ranked player in the final, but Divyanshi had already proven that rankings meant little during her remarkable run.
The triumph is significant not only for Divyanshi but also for Indian table tennis. India has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, with established stars achieving notable results at the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and international tournaments. However, the emergence of young players remains critical for sustaining that momentum.
Divyanshi's victory provides another encouraging sign that the next generation is ready to step forward. Already recognised as a U15 Asian champion, she has now demonstrated that she can compete successfully against senior international players. The ability to defeat opponents ranked inside the world's top 100 repeatedly over a single tournament speaks volumes about her potential.
The success in Prishtina became even more special as Divyanshi completed a double during the tournament. Winning her first senior singles title while also enjoying success elsewhere at the event underlined her consistency and versatility across formats. More importantly, the title will provide a major confidence boost as she continues her transition from junior competition to the senior international circuit.
Indian table tennis has been searching for its next generation of stars capable of competing consistently at the highest level. At just the beginning of her senior career, Divyanshi Bhowmick appears to be firmly on that path. Defeating players ranked 132, 104, 66, 64 and finally World No. 38 in a single tournament is no ordinary achievement.
The victory in Prishtina is likely to become one of the defining moments of her young career and could prove to be the launching pad for bigger successes ahead.
For now, though, the spotlight belongs to Divyanshi Bhowmick the U15 Asian champion who arrived in Kosovo as an outsider and left as a senior WTT singles champion.
