Gokulam Kerala FC have recently completed the necessary formalities to appoint Carlos Eduardo Parreira as the new head coach for the 2026-27 Indian Football League season. Parreira has extensive coaching experience in Thailand, Brazil and Indonesia. The 45-year-old possesses international coaching experience and has successfully mentored club teams with his clever football knowledge.
Parreira has mentored teams across various age groups and knows how to groom players at the grassroots level. During the 2025-26 season, the club needed to make multiple changes at the managerial level, and the appointment of Parreira might provide a big boost to the club's foundation at the grassroots level that could help the club revive its recognition before the 2026-27 season begins.
Coaching experience at different clubs
Parreira has mentored teams like Flamengo Academy, MPPJ Malaysia, Wuhan China, Emirates Club Reserves, etc. He has also mentored South African club Lamontville Golden Arrows FC. He has mentored teams like Las Vegas United, which is based in the United States of America. He was the coach of Al Qaisumah Club in 2023, which is based in Saudi Arabia.
He has mentored Thailand-based clubs like Rayong Football Club, Chiangmai United, and Khon Kaen United. Apart from this, he has mentored a Brazilian club named Clube Sociedad Esportiva in 2024. During the 2025-26 season, he was the coach of Madura United Football Club.
The two-time champions would be hoping the 45-year-old's arrival might help the club add more fluidity in the team's attacking play, thus helping the team get promoted to the top level.
Parreira has also mentored junior teams in Brazilian football at the under-15 and under-17 levels as a conditioning coach. Parreira began his managerial career at a very young age when he was appointed as strength and conditioning coach for Brazilian club Bangu BJ Atletico Clube in 2001 and completed his tenure in 2005. He mentored the under-20 Fluminense team in 2006. Meanwhile, the officials of the Indian Football League Governing Council held a meeting on the 27th of July and declared that the IFL will start from the 16th of October 2026. Gokulam Kerala FC, Rajasthan United FC, Aizawl FC, Bengaluru FC, Chanmari FC, Delhi FC, Dempo FC, Real Kashmir FC, Sreenidi Deccan FC and Shillong Lajong FC will play in the IFL alongside Mohammedan Sporting Club, which was relegated from the ISL. Diamond Harbour FC have been promoted to the ISL after winning the 2025-26 IFL season.
