Gulveer Singh Smashes Meet Record to Win Mile Race at Music City Track Carnival

India’s Gulveer Singh won the men’s mile race at the Music City Track Carnival 2026 in the USA, clocking a meet and facility record of 3:55.63.
Indian distance running star Gulveer Singh added another impressive achievement to his growing résumé by winning the men's mile race at the Music City Track Carnival 2026 in Nashville, USA, on Friday.
Competing at the Music City Track Carnival, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger-level meet (Category D), Gulveer stormed to victory in a meet and facility record time of 3:55.63, producing one of the finest mile performances by an Indian athlete this season.
The victory further underlines Gulveer's remarkable rise in international middle and long-distance running and serves as another confidence boost ahead of bigger competitions later in the year.
Lining up against a competitive field dominated by American runners, Gulveer delivered a composed and tactical race before unleashing a strong finish over the final stages. The Indian athlete crossed the finish line in 3:55.63, comfortably ahead of American runner Christopher Knight, who finished second in 3:59.72. Tristan Trevino claimed third place in 4:00.27, while Charles Leedke (4:01.08) and Garrett Brown (4:01.23) rounded out the top five.
The performance was significant not only because it secured victory but also because it established a new meet and facility record, highlighting the quality of Gulveer's run.
Breaking the four-minute barrier in the mile remains a respected benchmark in middle-distance running worldwide. Gulveer's sub-3:56 performance showcased both his endurance and speed, qualities that have become hallmarks of his racing in recent seasons.
The Music City Track Carnival may be a Challenger-level stop on the World Athletics Continental Tour, but it regularly attracts strong domestic and international fields, making it a valuable competition opportunity for athletes seeking ranking points, race sharpness and qualifying performances. For Gulveer, the win represents another important step in his ongoing international campaign.
Over the past two years, the Services athlete has transformed himself into one of India's most reliable distance runners. Whether on the track or the roads, he has consistently delivered performances that have pushed Indian distance running forward.
His success has also helped bring renewed attention to an event category where India has traditionally struggled to compete consistently at the global level.
There will be little time for celebration, however. Gulveer is scheduled to return to the track on Saturday for the men's 1500m race at the same meet, giving him another opportunity to test himself against quality opposition.
The mile and the 1500m share many similarities, but the shorter Olympic event often requires greater tactical awareness and a faster closing speed. Having already displayed excellent form in the mile, Gulveer will enter the 1500m race with considerable confidence. A strong performance could further strengthen his international standing and continue the momentum he has built throughout the season.
Indian athletics has enjoyed significant success in recent years through athletes in javelin throw, steeplechase, race walking and sprint events. Distance running, however, remains an area where breakthroughs are particularly valuable. Gulveer Singh has emerged as one of the athletes leading that charge.
His ability to consistently produce competitive performances on the international circuit has made him one of the most exciting Indian distance runners to watch. Victories such as the one in Nashville demonstrate that Indian athletes are increasingly capable of challenging and winning against quality international competition.
While larger targets undoubtedly lie ahead later in the season, Friday's performance was another reminder of Gulveer's growing stature within Asian athletics.
For now, the Indian runner leaves Nashville's mile race as the champion, the meet record holder and the facility record holder after a brilliant 3:55.63 performance.
And with the 1500m still to come, Gulveer Singh's weekend at the Music City Track Carnival may not be over yet.
