The Indian women’s team started their ICC T20 World Cup campaign with a resounding 64 run win over arch-rivals Pakistan played at Edgbaston, Birmingham. After the initial struggle, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh hit valuable runs as Indian team posted 170 for 6 in 20 overs.
It was a great bowling effort not allowing the Pakistani batters to score runs easily and also pick wickets at regular intervals to bowl them cheaply for 106.

Smriti Mandhana
It was a shaky start as India lost two early wickets of Shafali Varma and Jemimah Rodrigues. Smriti Mandhana looked in fluent touch putting the Pakistan bowlers under pressure. She kept the strike rotating making life tough for opponents.
Mandhana showed her class keeping the momentum reaching her fifty off 34 balls to keep scoreboard ticking along with Harmanpreet Kaur. It was a superb batting performance on a slow pitch which offered some assistance to the spinners. Mandhana was dismissed for well made 68 off 44 balls which set the platform for India to post decent total.
Richa Ghosh
Richa Ghosh came to the crease with scoreboard reading 110 for 4. She took some time to settle before launching an assault putting the pressure back on the Pakistani bowlers.
Ghosh played with attacking intent keeping the scoreboard ticking hitting big shots including 23 runs off Tasmia Rubab in 19th over changing the momentum of whole innings. She displayed power-hitting including 3 boundaries and 1 six making life tough for Pakistani bowlers.
It was game changing momentum hitting boundaries and sixes at will. She was dismissed for quickfire 34 from 17 balls with 5 fours and 1 six which helped India post 170 for 6 in 20 overs.
Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma played a key role in helping Indian team register an emphatic 64 run win. It was a tremendous bowling effort by Deepti keeping the Pakistani batters in trouble and not allowing them to score runs easily.
Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali put on 38 runs for the opening wicket before Deepti struck to get the breakthrough dismissing Gull Feroza.
Deepti kept tight lines and lengths making life tough for Pakistani batters. She took her 2nd wicket of Ayesha Zafar after the field restrictions.
Deepti produced a superb direct throw to dismiss well-set Muneeba Ali to leave Pakistan in deep trouble. She then produced the magic getting three more wickets of Aliya Riaz, Tasmia Rubab and Nashra Sandhu. Deepti finished off the match taking the wicket of Nashra Sandhu to bowl Pakistan out for 106.
Deepti Sharma ended with best figures by Indian bowler in T20 World history. She took stunning efforts of 5 for 10 in 4 overs to help India start on a thumping note. Deepti also contributed unbeaten 12 off 9 balls and made sure that India post defendable total.
For her all-round performance including 5 for 10 in 4 overs, Deepti Sharma was named the player of the match award.
Shree Charani
Shree Charani also delivered the goods for India with great figures of 3 for 21 in 4 overs. She kept tight lines and lengths making life tough for Pakistani batters during the middle overs.
Charani took wickets of Saira Jabeen, Natalia Pervez to stall Pakistan progress. She then got rid of Ramim Shamim which left Pakistani batting unit under serious trouble. Playing her first T20 World Cup match, she showed her class with discipline lines and lengths with lot of dot deliveries.
