With the 2026 Asian Games in Japan scheduled from September 19 to October 4, the Bhubaneswar meet assumes added importance. It will provide India's leading athletes with a high-quality competition opportunity less than a month before the continental games.
The Bhubaneswar meet is set to feature 18 events, equally divided between men's and women's competition, offering a broad programme across sprinting, middle- and long-distance running, jumps, throws and hurdles.

The Silver-level meeting is part of a significantly expanded Indian athletics calendar for 2026.
