Indian Super League Announces 2026-27 Fixtures with Weekend-Centric Schedule

The Indian Super League (ISL) will return for its 2026-27 season on Saturday, October 10, with a double-header featuring four clubs and a schedule designed to place greater emphasis on weekend football.

The opening day will begin with Bengaluru FC hosting Sporting Club Delhi at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium at 5:00 PM IST. The second fixture will see FC Goa take on Chennaiyin FC at the Fatorda Stadium at 7:30 PM IST. The new campaign will feature 13 clubs and 78 matches in Phase 1, with the league calendar running from October 10, 2026 to January 17, 2027.

A major feature of this season's schedule is its weekend-centric approach, with 53 of the 78 Phase 1 matches—68 per cent—scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

The ISL has said the 2026-27 schedule has been shaped by fan feedback, with a greater emphasis on matches being played during weekends. Most fixtures will take place at 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM IST, creating more opportunities for fans to follow matches during the weekend. The 13 participating clubs are Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC, Churchill Brothers, East Bengal FC, FC Goa, Inter Kashi, Kerala Blasters FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United FC, Odisha FC, Punjab FC and Sporting Club Delhi.

The schedule also introduces new fixtures and destinations, adding a different dimension to the upcoming campaign.

One of the notable additions will be the first-ever ISL Goa Derby. Churchill Brothers will face FC Goa on Sunday, December 13, at the Fatorda Stadium, with the match scheduled for 7:30 PM IST. The fixture will introduce a new local rivalry to the ISL calendar as Churchill Brothers join the league's established clubs.

The 2026-27 season will also take the competition to Manipur. NorthEast United FC will host Sporting Club Delhi at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal on November 24, marking another new destination on the league schedule. The expansion of the fixture calendar and destinations adds new geographical dimensions to the competition while bringing ISL football to a wider range of supporters.

East Bengal Begin Title Defence in October

Defending champions East Bengal FC will begin their title defence on Sunday, October 18, when they face Churchill Brothers at the Fatorda Stadium at 5:00 PM IST. East Bengal will not feature in Game Week 1 because of their AFC commitments. Their campaign will then begin with a fixture against Churchill Brothers as they look to defend the title they won last season.

One of the biggest fixtures of the opening phase will arrive in November when the Kolkata Derby takes place. East Bengal FC will host Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Sunday, November 29. The match is scheduled for 7:30 PM IST. The Kolkata Derby remains one of the most prominent fixtures in Indian football, and its inclusion in the early part of the 2026-27 calendar provides another major date for supporters.

The league will pause in November for the FIFA international window. No ISL matches will be played from Saturday, November 7 to Friday, November 20, 2026.

The break will allow players selected for their respective national teams to leave their clubs and participate in international duty. The league will resume after the international window, with the Phase 1 schedule continuing through January.

Phase 1 will consist of 78 matches, beginning on October 10 and concluding on January 17, 2027. At the end of Phase 1, the top six teams will advance to the playoffs.

The schedule for Phase 2 and the playoffs will be announced at a later date. One logistical detail remains unresolved, with the venue for Inter Kashi's home matches yet to be confirmed. The club is expected to confirm its home ground before the relevant fixtures are finalised.

The 2026-27 season will be conducted under the ISL's club-led commercial model, with participating clubs holding commercial rights as well as administrative control and oversight of key operational aspects. The league continues to serve as India's top-tier professional football competition, bringing together clubs, players, coaches, supporters, broadcasters and commercial partners. With 13 clubs set to participate, the upcoming campaign combines familiar rivalries with new fixtures and destinations.

The opening double-header on October 10 will set the season in motion, with Bengaluru FC hosting Sporting Club Delhi before FC Goa take on Chennaiyin FC. From the introduction of the Goa Derby and a fixture in Imphal to the return of major fixtures such as the Kolkata Derby, the 2026-27 schedule brings several new elements to the ISL calendar.

With 53 of the 78 Phase 1 matches scheduled across Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the league will also place a clear emphasis on weekend football as the new season gets underway.
