Kerala Blasters FC produced a tactically assured and disciplined performance to register a 2-0 victory over Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League 2025–26 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Saturday.

Built on an efficient first-half display and anchored by a standout goalkeeping performance from Arsh Shaikh, the Blasters secured three crucial points in front of their home supporters.

The result marked Kerala’s second win of the campaign, taking them to eight points and lifting them to 11th in the standings. Jamshedpur FC, meanwhile, endured a frustrating evening as they slipped to fifth place with 15 points from nine matches. The match began with both teams looking to establish control in midfield. Kerala Blasters showed early attacking intent through Karim Benarif and Kévin Yoke, while Jamshedpur responded with a structured approach, building patiently through Nikola Stojanović. The opening exchanges were evenly contested, with neither side willing to concede territory easily.

However, Kerala’s proactive approach soon paid dividends. In the 12th minute, the hosts executed a well-constructed attacking move to take the lead. Kévin Yoke initiated the sequence, releasing Karim Benarif down the left flank. Benarif drove forward with purpose, beat his marker, and delivered a precise cross into the penalty area. Nihal Sudheesh timed his run perfectly from the right, rising above his defender to head the ball past Albino Gomes. It was a goal that combined intelligent movement with accurate delivery, setting the tone for Kerala’s first-half dominance.

Jamshedpur responded almost immediately and came within inches of restoring parity. Just two minutes after conceding, Lazar Ćirković met a corner with a powerful header that struck the post. The rebound fell kindly for Kerala, allowing them to clear the danger, but it was an early warning that the visitors remained a threat from set-pieces. The game continued at a high tempo, with both sides finding spaces in wide areas. Jamshedpur looked particularly dangerous down the right, where Nikhil Barla and Mohammed Sanan combined effectively to stretch Kerala’s defensive line. Despite these promising moves, the final delivery often lacked precision, preventing them from converting possession into clear-cut chances.

Kerala Blasters, in contrast, were more clinical in decisive moments. In the 36th minute, they doubled their advantage through another well-executed attacking sequence. Francisco Feuillassier delivered a measured cross from near the touchline, and Vibin Mohanan introduced earlier as a substitute for the injured Benarif—rose inside the box to guide a header beyond Albino Gomes. The timing of the goal, just before half-time, gave Kerala a significant cushion and shifted the pressure firmly onto Jamshedpur.

Before the break, Jamshedpur made attempts to reduce the deficit. Vincy Barretto tested Arsh Shaikh with a header, while Sanan saw his effort blocked in a crowded penalty area. However, Kerala’s defensive organisation ensured they carried a two-goal lead into the interval. The second half saw a clear shift in momentum as Jamshedpur FC pushed forward aggressively in search of a comeback. Rei Tachikawa’s delivery from wide areas created early problems, and Arsh Shaikh was called into action to deal with a series of dangerous situations. Ritwik Das and Messi Bouli both tested the Kerala goalkeeper, but Shaikh remained composed, producing crucial saves to maintain his side’s advantage.

As the pressure intensified, Kerala Blasters relied on defensive discipline and structured positioning to absorb the attacks. The backline held its shape effectively, while the midfield worked tirelessly to track runners and block passing lanes. Arsh Shaikh emerged as the key figure during this phase, denying Bouli and Stephen Eze with sharp reflexes and confident handling. Despite spending extended periods without the ball, Kerala remained a threat on the counter-attack. Kévin Yoke linked up well with substitute Víctor Bertomeu, creating opportunities to exploit spaces left by Jamshedpur’s advanced positioning. Vibin Mohanan nearly added a third goal but was forced wide under pressure, highlighting Kerala’s continued attacking intent.

Jamshedpur’s hopes of a comeback suffered a decisive blow in the 84th minute when captain Stephen Eze was shown a red card. Reduced to ten men, the visitors found it increasingly difficult to sustain pressure, allowing Kerala to manage the closing stages with greater control. In the final minutes, Kerala Blasters focused on game management, retaining possession and limiting Jamshedpur’s ability to create meaningful chances. Their composure ensured there were no late surprises, sealing a deserved 2-0 victory.

This performance underlined Kerala Blasters’ ability to combine attacking efficiency with defensive resilience. The early goals provided a platform, while Arsh Shaikh’s commanding display ensured the clean sheet. For Jamshedpur FC, the defeat exposed issues in finishing and discipline, areas they will need to address as the competition progresses.

Ultimately, Kerala’s balance across phases of play proved decisive, delivering a result that could serve as a turning point in their season.
