India’s 17-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi continued her impressive rise on the professional tennis circuit, defeating the Netherlands’ Demi Tran 6-3, 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the ITF W35 Monastir tournament in Tunisia.

The victory extended her winning streak to 10 matches and kept alive a remarkable run that began with her qualifying campaign and culminated in a title at W35 Lagos before she carried her momentum into Monastir.

Ranked World No. 726, Maaya entered the Monastir main draw through qualifying and has since produced a series of results that underline her growing potential. Her latest performance was particularly convincing: after taking the opening set 6-3, she dominated the second 6-0 to close out the match in straight sets.

The result also followed a significant first-round upset against top seed Anastasia Gasanova of Russia, ranked World No. 196. Maaya recovered from losing the first set to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, eliminating a player ranked more than 500 places above her.

For a teenager still establishing herself on the professional tour, the ability to recover from a difficult start against a higher-ranked opponent and then deliver a dominant performance in the next round is an encouraging sign of her progress.

From qualifying to a 10-match winning streak

Maaya’s current run has gathered momentum across two tournaments. At the ITF W35 Lagos event in Portugal, she came through qualifying and went on to win the title, defeating top seed Justina Mikulskyte, then ranked World No. 241, in the first round.

That victory was an early indication that Maaya could compete effectively against established players on the professional circuit. She subsequently converted her strong form into a title-winning campaign, building confidence and match experience along the way.

Rather than allowing that achievement to become a high point in isolation, Maaya has continued her progress in Tunisia. She began the W35 Monastir tournament in qualifying and has now reached the quarter-finals after defeating Gasanova and Tran.

The 10-match winning streak is a measure of her consistency across this stretch. It reflects not just one standout result but her ability to keep winning through different stages of a tournament and against opponents with varying levels of experience.

The transition from qualifying rounds to the latter stages of professional events is an important test for young players. Qualifiers must negotiate additional matches before reaching the main draw, leaving less room for recovery as the tournament progresses. Maaya’s continued success across consecutive events makes her run particularly noteworthy.

The defining moment of Maaya’s Monastir campaign so far came against Gasanova. The Russian entered the tournament as the top seed and was ranked World No. 196, making her a substantial test for the Indian teenager.

Maaya lost the opening set 3-6 but responded strongly in the second, winning it 6-2 to level the match. She then maintained her momentum in the deciding set, taking it 6-4 to complete the comeback.

Recovering after dropping the first set against a higher-ranked opponent requires both tactical adjustment and mental resilience. Maaya’s response ensured that the early setback did not dictate the outcome, and the win gave her a significant boost heading into the round of 16.

Against Tran, ranked World No. 636, she produced a more straightforward result. The 6-3 opening set established her advantage before she raised her level further in the second, denying Tran a game to complete a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

The contrast between the two matches demonstrates the different demands of a tournament campaign: Maaya had to fight back from a set down in the opener before controlling the next match from start to finish.

The quarter-final challenge awaits

Maaya’s next opponent will be France’s eighth seed Tiphanie Lemaitre, according to the supplied quarter-final match information. The original tournament update also indicated that she would face the winner of the match between Lemaitre and Latvia’s Sabine Rutlauka.

The quarter-final will offer another opportunity for the Indian teenager to test herself against a seeded opponent and extend her winning streak to 11 matches. After defeating the tournament’s top seed, Maaya will have reason to approach the contest with confidence, although the next round will bring a fresh challenge.

Her immediate priority will be to maintain the consistency that has defined her run. Against Gasanova, she showed she could recover from adversity. Against Tran, she demonstrated her ability to take control and finish efficiently.

Maaya’s back-to-back campaigns have already delivered a title in Lagos and a quarter-final appearance in Monastir. With her winning streak now at 10 matches, the 17-year-old has become one of the Indian players to watch on the ITF circuit.

The challenge ahead is to turn this exceptional stretch into another deep tournament run. For now, Maaya’s progress from qualifier to champion and then quarter-finalist at a second event reflects a promising period in her young professional career.
