South United's only meaningful opportunity before halftime came through Makakmayum Daniyal, whose powerful strike forced Vishal Kaith into an excellent diving save.

To their credit, South United showed greater determination after the restart and enjoyed more possession during the opening exchanges of the second half. However, they struggled to create genuine chances against a disciplined Mohun Bagan defence led by captain Subhasish Bose. The fifth goal arrived on the hour mark.

Another dangerous delivery from Anirudh Thapa found Manvir Singh, who cleverly lost his marker before directing a diving header into the far corner to complete a deserved hat-trick. A neat combination involving Sahal and substitute Sayan Banerjee created one final opportunity, and Suhail unleashed an unstoppable finish into the roof of the net to complete the 8-0 demolition.
