The MG Indian Super League (MG ISL) 2026–27 season made a strong start digitally, recording 65 million YouTube views and reaching 52 million viewers across five matches during its opening week.

The figures highlighted the growing digital audience for Indian football, with NorthEast United FC versus Mohun Bagan Super Giant emerging as the most-viewed fixture on the English feed. The opening week, which began on October 10, also delivered 16.8 million engaged views, attracted 120,000 new subscribers to the league’s YouTube channel and generated 1.6 million live interactions through chat messages and reactions. The league’s YouTube subscriber base consequently increased to 2.7 million.

The early numbers provided a positive start for the competition, which is making its matches available live and free on YouTube alongside television coverage on Sony Sports Network and streaming on SonyLIV.

The encounter between NorthEast United FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant emerged as the most-viewed fixture during the opening week, recording 17 million views on the English feed. The match also led viewership on the Hindi feed, underlining the importance of multilingual broadcasting in reaching football audiences across India.

The fixture attracted particular attention as Mohun Bagan, one of Indian football’s prominent clubs, faced NorthEast United in a contest that ultimately ended in a 1-0 victory for the Highlanders. Jithin M.S. scored a stoppage-time winner, giving NorthEast United all three points after a disciplined defensive performance.

The reported viewership figures reflected the audience interest generated by the match across both language feeds. They also highlighted the potential of regional and national fan bases to contribute to the league’s digital reach.

The season opener generates 8.9 million views.

The 2026–27 campaign began on October 10 with Bengaluru FC taking on Sporting Club Delhi. The opening fixture generated 8.9 million YouTube views across the formats reported by the league. The match also recorded a peak concurrent viewership of 85,277 on the English feed, indicating the audience that tuned in simultaneously during the season opener.

On the pitch, Bengaluru FC secured a dramatic 3-2 victory, with Menno Koch scoring the decisive goal in the 89th minute. The result followed an attacking contest in which Sporting Club Delhi demonstrated considerable resilience before Bengaluru completed the comeback. The combination of a competitive fixture and a late winner provided an engaging start to the new season, while the digital figures established an early benchmark for subsequent matches.

Inter Kashi vs Kerala Blasters records highest English-feed peak.

While NorthEast United versus Mohun Bagan generated the highest reported total views, Inter Kashi versus Kerala Blasters FC recorded the highest peak concurrent viewership on the English feed, reaching 349,073 viewers. Kerala Blasters won the fixture 2-0, with captain Vibin Mohanan opening the scoring in the 18th minute and Andre Green adding a second in stoppage time.

The distinction between total views and peak concurrent viewership is important when assessing the opening week's performance. Total views measure viewing activity across the reported period, while peak concurrent viewership reflects the highest number of viewers watching at the same time.

On the Hindi feed, NorthEast United FC versus Mohun Bagan Super Giant recorded a peak viewership of 100,660 viewers. Together, the figures demonstrated that the league's audience engagement extended across both language offerings.

Beyond the headline total of 65 million YouTube views, the opening week generated 16.8 million engaged views. The release reported that engaged views accounted for 25% of total views, indicating a substantial level of audience engagement with the league's digital content.

The YouTube channel also added 120,000 subscribers during the opening week, taking its overall subscriber base to 2.7 million. The increase offered another measure of the audience growth surrounding the start of the season. Fans contributed 1.6 million live interactions across the five matches through chat messages and reactions. These interactions reflected audience participation during broadcasts, extending engagement beyond passive viewing.

The figures suggest that the league's digital strategy is focused not only on attracting viewers but also on building an active community around live match coverage.

Free digital access expands the league's reach

Every MG ISL match is available live and free on YouTube, with additional coverage through Sony Sports Network on television and SonyLIV via streaming. This multi-platform distribution gives viewers different ways to follow the competition and reduces dependence on a single viewing platform.

The availability of English and Hindi feeds also allows the league to serve audiences with different language preferences. The reported performance of NorthEast United versus Mohun Bagan across both feeds demonstrated the value of this approach. The MG ISL 2026–27 season began on October 10 and is scheduled to run until May 31, 2027. With 65 million YouTube views and 52 million viewers recorded across the first five matches, the league established a strong opening-week digital performance.

Whether these figures translate into sustained audience growth over the full season will depend on continued engagement, competitive matches and the league's ability to convert opening-week interest into regular viewership.

For now, the early numbers provide an encouraging start for the MG ISL's digital distribution strategy, with strong viewing figures, subscriber growth and live interaction marking the opening phase of the campaign.
