PV Sindhu continued her impressive resurgence on the international badminton circuit, defeating compatriot Anmol Kharb 21-13, 21-16 in an all-Indian semifinal to reach the women's singles final of the Hylo Open 2026 in Saarbrücken, Germany.

The former world champion and two-time Olympic medallist will now have an opportunity to convert another strong tournament into a title. Having reached the final of the French Open last week, Sindhu has made it back-to-back BWF Tour finals, underlining the consistency she has been building over recent weeks.

The semifinal victory also ensured that India would have a representative in the women's singles final. For Anmol, it brought an end to an encouraging campaign, while Sindhu moved one step closer to another important title.

The meeting between Sindhu and Anmol brought together two different stages of Indian women's badminton. Sindhu, an established presence at the highest level of the sport, faced a younger compatriot who has been making steady progress on the international circuit.

Anmol had earned her place in the semifinal through a series of strong performances, including a victory over fellow Indian Unnati Hooda. Her run demonstrated her ability to compete against established names, but the challenge against Sindhu was a different proposition.

Sindhu approached the contest with the composure and control expected from a player of her experience. She won the opening game 21-13, establishing an advantage and putting Anmol under pressure. The second game was more competitive, with Anmol attempting to extend the contest and challenge Sindhu's control. However, the senior Indian maintained her advantage and closed out the match 21-16.

The straight-games victory was another example of Sindhu's ability to manage important moments without allowing an opponent to dictate the direction of the match.

One of the most encouraging aspects of Sindhu's Hylo Open campaign has been the consistency of her performances. She has won all four of her matches at the tournament in straight games, reaching the final without dropping a game.

Her route included a victory over Germany's Amalie Nissen Schulz in the quarterfinals, where Sindhu delivered a particularly dominant performance. She won 21-12, 21-10 in just 28 minutes, controlling the match from the outset and winning 42 of the 64 points played.

That performance set up the all-Indian semifinal against Anmol, which Sindhu negotiated in equally assured fashion. The ability to progress through four rounds without losing a game is significant, particularly at a Super 500 tournament where the quality of opposition increases as the competition advances. Sindhu has combined efficient match management with the experience to handle different opponents and situations.

Her performances in Saarbrücken have also come on the back of a strong showing at the French Open, where she finished as runner-up. Reaching consecutive finals represents an important development in her 2026 campaign.

The Hylo Open final is Sindhu's third final appearance of 2026, according to the season milestones highlighted during the tournament. She has also reached 10 quarterfinals this year, reflecting a sustained presence in the latter stages of competitions.

Her recent results have renewed attention around her position among the world's leading women's singles players. A strong finish to the season could strengthen her prospects of ending the year inside the world rankings' top five.

Sindhu's progress is particularly noteworthy given the expectations that have followed her throughout her career. After establishing herself as one of India's most successful badminton players, she continues to demonstrate that she can remain competitive and challenge for titles on the BWF Tour.

Her recent performances have also brought back comparisons with the kind of sustained comeback seen in other major sports. The important point, however, is that Sindhu is now backing encouraging results with successive appearances in tournament finals.

Anmol Kharb's campaign offers encouragement

Although Anmol could not overcome Sindhu, reaching the semifinal remains a positive outcome for the young Indian. Her run included a victory over Unnati Hooda, another Indian player, in the quarterfinals. She entered the last four with an opportunity to reach a major BWF Tour final, but faced a player whose experience and consistency proved decisive.

The semifinal also provided an important contest between India's established star and one of its emerging talents. Anmol's progress through the tournament is encouraging, even as Sindhu's victory reinforces the depth of experience she brings to the international stage.

Sindhu will now turn her attention to the final, where she will look to complete an impressive fortnight with another tournament victory. With four straight-game wins behind her and consecutive finals secured, she has given herself an excellent opportunity to finish the Hylo Open campaign with the title.

For Indian badminton, the tournament has already delivered a significant result: another final for Sindhu and a strong semifinal run from Anmol. But Sindhu's focus will be firmly on the remaining challenge. One more victory would turn an encouraging run of form into a championship triumph.

After two consecutive weeks of reaching BWF Tour finals, the Indian star will be determined to make this Sunday count.
