PV Sindhu defeats Prakriti Bharath 21-10, 21-10 to reach the round of 16 at the Hylo Open 2026 after returning to World No. 8.

PV Sindhu began her Hylo Open 2026 campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating the United Arab Emirates’ Prakriti Bharath 21-10, 21-10 in the women’s singles opening round.

The second seed needed little more than two games to secure her place in the round of 16 at the BWF Super 500 tournament in Saarbrücken, Germany.

The scoreline reflected Sindhu’s control throughout the contest. Against Bharath, ranked World No. 83, the Indian produced a comfortable performance, winning both games by identical margins to move into the pre-quarterfinals without being taken to a decider.

The victory provides a positive start to Sindhu’s campaign as she looks to build on her recent performances on the international circuit. With her experience and status among the leading players in the draw, the Indian will now turn her attention to a potentially more challenging second-round assignment.

Sindhu’s opening-round performance was marked by her ability to keep the contest firmly under control. She won the first game 21-10, establishing a clear advantage over Bharath and putting herself in a strong position to close out the match.

The Indian maintained that authority in the second game. Rather than allowing her opponent an opportunity to extend the contest, Sindhu once again reached 21 points while restricting Bharath to 10.

Winning both games by the same scoreline underlined the consistency of Sindhu’s performance. The straight-games victory also ensured that she could progress without spending additional time on court in a tournament where the challenges are expected to become tougher with each round.

For Bharath, the result meant an early exit against one of the most experienced players in the field. For Sindhu, it was a straightforward first step in a tournament where she will be looking to convert her seeding into a deep run.

Sindhu’s Hylo Open campaign comes at an important point in her season. According to the latest rankings information provided, the two-time Olympic medallist has climbed to World No. 8 after reaching the final of the French Open 2026.

The return to the top 10 is a significant milestone, particularly after she had spent more than three years outside that group. Her latest ranking reflects the progress made through her recent performances and gives her campaign in Germany additional context.

Sindhu’s experience on the biggest stages remains one of her major strengths. A two-time Olympic medallist, she has spent years competing against the leading players in women’s singles and understands the demands of progressing through high-level international tournaments.

Her run to the French Open final has also provided a platform to carry momentum into the Hylo Open. The immediate task, however, is to translate that form into another consistent tournament performance, beginning with the next round.

As the second seed, Sindhu will be expected to challenge for a place in the latter stages. Her opening-round result was an efficient start, although the quality of opposition is likely to rise as the draw progresses.

Potential second-round test against Yvonne Li

Sindhu could face Germany’s Yvonne Li in the round of 16, setting up a potentially more demanding contest. Li had previously stunned the Indian at the Denmark Open, making the possible rematch an interesting prospect.

That earlier result would give the next-round encounter an additional storyline if the two players meet. For Sindhu, it would be an opportunity to respond to a previous setback and continue her progress in the tournament.

However, the matchup remains conditional on the second-round draw playing out as expected. Sindhu must first await confirmation of her opponent before preparing for the next challenge.

A potential meeting with Li would also represent a different test from the opening round. Against Bharath, Sindhu was able to complete the match in straight games with identical 21-10 scores. The next round could require greater adaptability, depending on the opponent and the pattern of the contest.

Sindhu has completed the first task of her Hylo Open campaign with a convincing win. The 21-10, 21-10 result sends the Indian into the pre-quarterfinals and allows her to continue her pursuit of a strong finish at the Super 500 event.

Her return to World No. 8, following the French Open final, adds further significance to the tournament. With her ranking moving back into the top 10 and her campaign beginning with a dominant performance, Sindhu has reason to approach the coming rounds with confidence.

The opening victory was comfortable, but the more revealing tests lie ahead. Sindhu will need to maintain her consistency as she faces stronger opposition in the knockout stages.

For now, the Indian has made the start she wanted in Saarbrücken: a straight-games win, a place in the round of 16 and an opportunity to build on her recent form.
