South Delhi Superstarz Beat Central Delhi Queens by 11 Runs in Rain-Curtailed Women’s DPL 2026 Clash

South Delhi Superstarz produced a disciplined all-round performance to defeat Central Delhi Queens by 11 runs in a rain-curtailed Women’s Delhi Premier League 2026 encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Monday.

In an eight-over contest, South Delhi posted 68/6 before their bowlers and fielders combined to restrict Central Delhi Queens to 57/5. Captain Shweta Sehrawat led from the front with a composed 26 off 21 deliveries, while the bowling unit ensured the opposition never generated enough momentum during the chase.

The result was built on South Delhi’s ability to recover from a late loss of wickets and then maintain control after Central Delhi made a disastrous start to their innings.

Asked to bat first in the rain-curtailed contest, South Delhi Superstarz needed their batters to adapt quickly to the reduced format. Priya Punia provided the early momentum, smashing nine runs from just four deliveries. She struck two boundaries and immediately put pressure on the Central Delhi bowling attack before Sumiti Soni removed her.

With wickets at a premium in a short eight-over contest, South Delhi captain Shweta Sehrawat took responsibility for anchoring the innings. The right-hander scored 26 off 21 deliveries, hitting three boundaries. While the innings did not feature an explosive finish, Sehrawat ensured South Delhi had a platform through the middle overs.

Her ability to rotate the strike and find boundaries at important moments gave the innings structure after the early wicket of Punia. Tanisha Singh then added further momentum with a valuable 19 off 13 deliveries. Her innings included three fours and provided South Delhi with the acceleration they needed in the middle and latter stages.

Tanisha’s dismissal, however, triggered a brief collapse.

Medhavi Bidhuri accounted for her as South Delhi lost wickets in quick succession towards the end of the innings. In a shortened contest, those late wickets prevented the Superstarz from producing an even bigger total.

Ananya Pahuja remained unbeaten on five, while Disha Nagar contributed four off three deliveries as South Delhi finished on 68/6 from their eight overs. For Central Delhi Queens, Sumiti Soni and Medhavi Bidhuri were the standout bowlers, picking up two wickets apiece.

Despite the strong finish with the ball, Central Delhi was left needing 69 to win in eight overs.

The chase could hardly have started worse. Saachi was stumped for a duck off the very first delivery, immediately placing Central Delhi under pressure. In an eight-over chase, losing an opener before a single run had been scored was a significant setback. The Queens needed a partnership to rebuild quickly while also maintaining the required scoring rate.

Deeksha Sharma attempted to provide that response. She played a brisk innings of 22 from 16 deliveries, striking four boundaries and giving Central Delhi a chance to recover from the early dismissal. Her positive approach helped keep the chase alive as the team looked to rebuild.

But just as Central Delhi needed stability, another setback arrived. Deeksha was run out in the sixth over with the score on 41. The dismissal left the Queens with a difficult equation and limited time to recover. Arushi Goel contributed 14 off 12 balls, while Monika added nine from six deliveries. Both attempted to keep the chase moving, but South Delhi’s bowlers did not allow either batter to produce the late acceleration required.

Riya Kondal remained unbeaten on one, while captain Soni Yadav finished on two not out. Central Delhi eventually closed on 57/5 from eight overs, falling 11 runs short of the target.

South Delhi bowlers maintain control

The difference between the two sides was ultimately South Delhi’s ability to take wickets at crucial moments and prevent Central Delhi from building a sustained partnership.

Roopali Vishwa Mohan, Disha Nagar and Ekta Bhadana picked up one wicket each, while South Delhi’s fielding also played a decisive role. The run-out of Deeksha Sharma was particularly significant. At 41, Central Delhi still had a realistic chance if one of their set batters could remain at the crease and find boundaries during the final overs.

Instead, the wicket shifted the momentum firmly towards South Delhi.

The bowlers then maintained their discipline, forcing Central Delhi to take risks without allowing the chase to gather momentum. In a short-format contest, the margins are often narrow. One early wicket, one missed opportunity, or one run-out can alter the course of the match.

South Delhi capitalized on those moments.

The 11-run victory highlighted the value of a balanced team performance. Sehrawat provided leadership with the bat, Priya and Tanisha supplied important runs around her, and the bowling unit defended a modest total with discipline. Central Delhi will look back at the first-ball dismissal and the run-out of Deeksha as key turning points. Their bowlers had done well to restrict South Delhi to 68/6, but the chase never developed the momentum required to overhaul the target.

For South Delhi Superstarz, however, the result was another demonstration of their ability to execute under pressure. On a rain-affected evening at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where every over carried additional importance, South Delhi stayed composed with both bat and ball.
