US Open Badminton 2026: Three Indian Shuttlers Enter Semi-Finals

The Indian shuttlers had an impressive showing, with the likes of Kidambi Srikanth, Raonak Chauhan and Devika Sihag entering into semi-finals in the Super 300 US Open badminton tournament played in California on 26th June 2026.

Raonak Chauhan continued his superb run with a straight game win over 37-year-old Misha Zilberman of Isreal. Both players started off taking alternate points, with Zilberman producing lovely shots keeping Chauhan under pressure. Zilberman dominated the play, taking a 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, the experienced Zilberman continued to play attacking badminton, keeping Indian under pressure. 

Chauhan showed great fighting spirit and courage to level the scores at 19-19. The match ebbed and flowed right down the wire before the 18-year-old Raunak held onto his nerves, winning the first game by 23-21. 

The 2nd game saw Raonak put on a dominating display right from the word go, putting enough pressure on Zilberman with his aggressive shots. At the mid-game break, Chahuan led 11-3. After the interval, the Indian domination continued and did not allow any chances for his opponent, winning by 21-11 to move into the semi-finals. He will face 8th-seeded Su Li Yang of Chinese Taipei. 

The 5th seeded Kidambi Srikanth made it into the semi-finals with a three-game win over his Chinese Taipei opponent Liao J-f. Srikanth put on a dominating display in the first game not allowing any chances to Liao with aggressive shots. The experienced Indian showed his domination, winning the first game easily by 21-9.

Liao then stormed back into the 2nd game, putting the Indian under immense pressure and making life tough. It was an impressive performance by Liao keeping momentum going winning with 21-12 scoreline. 

The third and deciding game saw a closely fought affair in the initial stages before Srikanth put on a dominating display, keeping Liao under pressure. At the mid-game break, Srikanth took a commanding 11-4 lead. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as the Indian kept playing attacking badminton, not giving any chances to Liao winning with commanding 21-8 scoreline to move into the semi-finals. He will now face 4th seeded Y Okimoto of Japan. 

In the women’s singles, Devika Sihag stunned 3rd seeded R Gunji in two straight games. Devika began the first game on an aggressive note with an initial 6-0 lead keeping Gunji under pressure. Gunji fought back strongly, but Sihag took a 11-8 scoreline at the break. After the interval, the Japanese showed fighting spirit and took lead for first time. It was neck to neck fight before Sihag held onto his nerves to win first game by 22-20. 

The second game started with both players fighting for each point till 6-6. Despite few unforced errors, Sihag took a slender 11-10 lead at the break. After the interval, the Japanese fought back strongly, but Sihag showed fighting spirit. Despite saving two match points, Gunji hit the shuttle on the net to give Sihag 21-19 victory. She will now face 2nd seeded Line Christophen of Denmark. 

However, it was curtains as Tanvi Sharma lost to 2nd seeded Line Christophen of Denmark in three games. The initial stages of the first game saw both players fighting for each point before Line Christophen played attacking badminton keeping Tanvi under pressure. At the mid-game break, Line took a 11-8 lead. After the interval, Tanvi looked out of sorts as Line hit attacking shots. Despite a mini-comeback, Line won the first game by 21-16. 

Tanvi upped her style of play in the 2nd game putting Line under pressure with her attacking shots. At the mid-game break, the Indian led 11-4. After the interval, it was way traffic as Tanvi kept piling pressure on Line winning the 2nd game comfortably by 21-11. 

The Indian began the 3rd game on a positive note before she committed few unforced errors. Line looked in great touch keeping Tanvi under pressure. At the mid-game break, Line took a commanding 11-6 lead. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as Tanvi lost the momentum losing by 11-21 scoreline. 

Santosh Ramraj went down in three games to Racheal Chan of Canada. Ramraj began the first game on a positive note putting Chan under pressure with attacking shots and making life tough for her. At the mid-game break, Ramraj had a commanding 11-6 lead. After the interval, Chan tried to make a comeback, but the Indian held onto her nerves to win first game by 21-15. 

The second game was a closely fought affair as both players showed class taking alternate points. Chan looked impressive keeping Ramraj under pressure with 11-9 lead at the break. After the interval, Ramraj struggled to keep the pace losing by 16-21. 

From 3-8 down, Santosh Ramraj made a good comeback to reduce at 7-8. Ramraj struggled to keep the momentum as Chan took a 11-8 lead at the break. After the interval, Ramraj struggled losing the third game by 12-21.

  4. Tanvi Sharma lost to Line Christophen (Women’s Singles)- 16-21, 21-11, 11-21 

  5. Santosh Ramraj lost to Racheal Chan (Women’s Singles)- 21-15, 16-21, 12-21
