Zinc Football Academy Defends Rajasthan League Title with Youngest-Ever Championship Squad

Zinc Football Academy continued its rise as one of India’s most promising grassroots football institutions after successfully defending the Rajasthan League Senior Men’s A-Division 2025-26 title, becoming the first team to win back-to-back championships in the competition’s history.
The Zawar-based side sealed the title in emphatic fashion with a 4-1 victory over Jaipur City FC in their final league fixture, capping off a dominant campaign built on attacking football, defensive solidity, and the emergence of a remarkably young squad. The triumph marked Zinc Football Academy’s third Rajasthan League title overall, but perhaps the most significant aspect of this campaign was the age profile of the team. This was the academy’s youngest-ever title-winning squad, underlining the strength of its developmental structure and long-term investment in youth football.
Zinc Football Academy’s numbers across the campaign reflected complete control over the league.
The side won 10 of its 12 matches, scoring 39 goals while conceding just six. Their staggering goal difference of +33 highlighted not only their attacking quality but also their tactical discipline and defensive organisation. In a league featuring seven of Rajasthan’s strongest teams, Zinc consistently maintained a level of performance that separated them from the rest of the competition.
Their title-clinching victory against Jaipur City FC summed up their season perfectly. Abith, Yash, and Biswajit got on the scoresheet as Zinc overwhelmed their opponents with energy, movement, and composure in possession. The result confirmed their status as the state’s leading footballing project and reinforced the academy’s growing reputation nationally.
Since its establishment in 2017, Zinc Football Academy has steadily evolved into one of India’s most impactful grassroots football initiatives. Located in Zawar and backed by Hindustan Zinc, the academy was built with a clear objective identifying and nurturing football talent from rural India. Over the last several years, the academy has trained more than 5,000 young footballers, creating opportunities for players who otherwise may never have had access to elite coaching or professional infrastructure.
The academy’s AIFF-accredited three-star status reflects the quality of its footballing ecosystem, while its infrastructure and residential setup continue to attract talent from across the region. Importantly, the project has not limited itself to men’s football.
The institution also houses India’s largest residential football academy for girls, a major step in expanding opportunities for women’s football in the country.
One of the defining features of Zinc Football Academy has been its holistic approach to athlete development. While results on the pitch remain important, the academy also focuses heavily on academics, personality development, discipline, and long-term career growth. Young athletes receive structured education alongside elite football training, helping create a balanced environment where players are prepared both for professional sport and life beyond football.
This integrated model has increasingly become the benchmark for successful youth academies globally, and Zinc’s approach reflects a growing understanding of what modern athlete development requires. The academy’s success is now becoming visible through the players it has produced. Footballers such as Mohammed Kaif, Prem Hansdak, Sahil Poonia, and Ashish Mayla have all progressed to represent India at various levels, demonstrating the academy’s ability to produce talent capable of competing nationally and internationally.
The academy’s achievements have also earned recognition from football administrators within the state. Rajasthan Football Association Secretary and Rajasthan Olympics Association Joint Secretary Dilip Singh Shekhawat praised the academy’s work after the title triumph, describing the players as the future of football in Rajasthan and India. His comments reflected a broader sentiment around the academy’s impact.
At a time when Indian football continues searching for sustainable grassroots systems, Zinc Football Academy has quietly established a model based on consistency, infrastructure, and long-term planning rather than short-term visibility.
The football academy forms part of Hindustan Zinc’s larger commitment toward community development and grassroots empowerment. The Vedanta Group company has invested heavily in education, sports, skill development, healthcare, and women’s empowerment across Rajasthan, with its outreach now impacting millions of people across more than 4,400 villages.
Sport has emerged as a major pillar of that vision. Beyond football, Hindustan Zinc has also supported athletics, kabaddi, volleyball, and endurance events like the Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon, which has helped place Udaipur on India’s distance running map. Its association with football, however, stretches back decades. The company’s football stadium in Zawar, established in 1976, has hosted annual national football tournaments for nearly 50 years, reflecting a longstanding commitment to the sport in the region.
In many ways, Zinc Football Academy represents what Indian grassroots football increasingly needs stable infrastructure, sustained investment, technical development, and patience. The academy’s back-to-back Rajasthan League triumphs are significant, but the larger story lies in the system being built underneath those results. Producing young players capable of competing at higher levels while simultaneously creating pathways for rural talent remains one of Indian football’s biggest challenges.
Zinc Football Academy’s continued rise suggests that challenge can be addressed successfully when development is approached with structure and long-term intent. For now, another Rajasthan League trophy has been added to the cabinet.
But for Indian football observers, the bigger takeaway may be the steady emergence of a grassroots institution that is beginning to consistently deliver both results and talent.
