Jamshedpur maintained relentless pressure throughout the first half. To their credit, Defenders FC showed greater resilience in the second half. Coach CP Wanigasooriya reorganised his team, resulting in a more disciplined defensive performance. Defender K.D.S. Sankalpa produced an outstanding sliding challenge to prevent Sanan Mohammed from adding another goal, while goalkeeper Priyashan redeemed himself with a series of fine saves.

He first denied Lalhriatpuia's fierce long-range effort before reacting sharply again to keep out another dangerous attempt from Sanan. The Sri Lankan side also enjoyed longer spells of possession after the restart. Patient passing combinations allowed them to move the ball more effectively, but they struggled to translate possession into genuine goalscoring opportunities.

Jamshedpur's defence remained largely untroubled throughout.

Despite reducing the tempo in the second half, Jamshedpur continued to control proceedings. Their fifth goal finally arrived in the 82nd minute. Substitute Lawmsangzuala forced another save from Priyashan with a powerful effort from the right side. The goalkeeper parried the initial shot but could not hold onto the rebound.

Waiting inside the six-yard box was Fernandes. The midfielder reacted instinctively, calmly converting from close range to complete a memorable hat-trick on his competitive debut. Captain Pronay Halder marshalled the midfield effectively, and the defence remained organised throughout.

Although the result was disappointing, their improved second-half display suggested there are positives they can build upon in the remaining group matches.
