Arjun Prasad Backs AM Green IGPL Vision as Indian Golfer Prepares for Second Half of Season
Arjun Prasad has spent nearly nine years navigating the highs and lows of professional golf. Now, after finally securing his maiden professional title in 2025, the 25-year-old believes he has found another important opportunity to take his career forward.
The Indian golfer is set to make his debut on the AM Green IGPL next month as the Tour enters the second half of its 2026 season. For Prasad, joining the league is not simply about adding another tournament to his calendar. He sees a larger vision behind the project, one that combines professional opportunities, player support, grassroots development and a pathway towards bigger international tours.
Prasad was recently welcomed into the IGPL family after being handed his cap by CEO Uttam Singh Mundy. He will now join several familiar faces, including close friends Aman Raj, Pukhraj Singh Gill and Karandeep Kochhar, as he prepares for a new chapter in his professional journey.
“There are a lot of things that IGPL is doing that make a lot of sense to me,” Prasad said. “I genuinely believe they have a great vision and some good plans for growing golf, both professionally and at the grassroots level.”
Born on February 12, 1999, Prasad began playing golf at the age of eight and quickly emerged as one of India's most promising young talents. His amateur career provided plenty of evidence of his potential. In 2016, he won the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in China, becoming only the third Indian after Rashid Khan and Abhijit Singh Chadha to achieve the feat. The same year, he represented India at the Eisenhower Trophy and finished as the Best Amateur at the Indian Open.
Those achievements marked him out as one of the country's leading prospects. A year later, at just 17, Prasad made the decision to turn professional. He also earned an Asian Tour card at the 2017 Asian Tour Qualifying School, becoming the youngest player that season to secure a card.
The transition from amateur to professional golf, however, required adjustment. Prasad had to learn that talent and aggressive shot-making alone were not always enough at the professional level. The game demanded greater patience, strategic awareness and the ability to manage difficult stretches over a long season.
The early results suggested progress. In 2018, Prasad recorded five top-10 finishes, including a joint runner-up finish at the Pune Open and third place at the QA Infotech Open. A tied-11th finish at the 2019 Panasonic Open India further highlighted his ability to compete against stronger fields.
But despite regular top-10 finishes and several near misses, the first professional victory remained elusive.
That changed in October 2025. Prasad won the Tamil Nadu Open in Coimbatore to secure his maiden professional title, a breakthrough that confirmed the potential many had seen in him since his amateur days. The victory came during the strongest season of his professional career.
Alongside the Tamil Nadu Open title, Prasad registered two runner-up finishes and nine other top-10 results. The consistency helped him finish fourth on the Order of Merit and provided a major confidence boost. For a player who had spent years knocking on the door, the first win carried special significance.
“Personally, I had a great season last year and got my first pro win, which was special,” Prasad said. “That has motivated me a lot and is driving me to improve the game and get better at it.” The 2026 season has delivered mixed results, although Prasad believes his game has been moving in the right direction. He has also gained international exposure by competing in a few events on the HotelPlanner Tour in Europe.
Now, he believes the IGPL can provide another platform to accelerate his development.
The Asian Tour pathway is a major attraction.
One of the biggest reasons behind Prasad's enthusiasm for the AM Green IGPL is its partnership with the Asian Tour. For Indian golfers, a clear pathway towards higher levels of international competition can be crucial. Prasad sees the opportunity to progress through the structure as one of the tour's biggest strengths.
“The partnership with the Asian Tour is something that is nice,” he said. “It gives us something to play towards and get on the Asian Tour. And from there we can go forward and get onto higher tours. That's a great opportunity for all of us.” He also highlighted the way the Tour supports its players. “I have spoken to a lot of players on IGPL, and one thing that is clear is that the Tour takes care of all its players, which is great, and we don't see that often.”
For a professional golfer trying to establish himself, that support can be particularly valuable. The sport can often be expensive and demanding, with players required to manage travel, training and competition schedules while maintaining consistent performance.
Prasad believes the structure being created by IGPL can help make that journey more sustainable.
Another aspect of the league that particularly appeals to Prasad is the team format. Professional golf is traditionally an individual sport, with players often competing primarily for personal rankings, prize money and titles. The IGPL's format introduces a different dynamic. “They also have a team format that is something which we don't see that often in professional golf,” Prasad said.
“I think that camaraderie makes golf fun, and the team spirit between players is something that I'm quite interested and excited about, because otherwise golf is such an individualistic sport.” The opportunity to compete alongside friends such as Aman Raj, who won twice during the inaugural IGPL season in 2025, adds another layer of excitement.
Prasad also believes competing against experienced players on the Tour can help improve his own game. “I also feel that the IGPL has some great players on the Tour, who have done amazingly well across the globe, and playing with them, competing against them and learning from them will definitely help me get better.”
Prasad has already made important lifestyle changes in pursuit of improvement. Determined to focus completely on his game, he moved from his parents' home to neighbouring Gurugram, allowing him to train in a more focused environment alongside friends and fellow golfers. “It saved me a lot of time,” he said with a laugh.
That dedication will now be tested during a busy second half of the IGPL season. The schedule features four consecutive weeks of competition beginning at the end of September, and Prasad is eager to get started.
“We have just got to know the schedule of the second half of IGPL. It looks great. There are four weeks in a row, and we start off at the end of September, and I'm really looking forward to it.” After years of promise, persistence and near misses, Arjun Prasad finally experienced the feeling of professional victory in 2025.
Now, with a maiden title behind him and a new opportunity ahead, the next stage of his career could be just beginning.
A few strong results on the AM Green IGPL may be all Prasad needs to turn another promising chapter into a defining one.
