It was a good day for Indian shuttlers as three of them entered into the quarterfinals of the Super 500 Australian Open tournament played at Sydney on 11th June 2026.
PV Sindhu defeated Indian counterpart Ishrani Burah in two straight games. Sindhu began the first game on aggressive note putting Burah under immense with dominating 6-1 lead. Burah stormed back into the game with some lovely shots keeping the star Indian shuttler under pressure. At the mid-game break, Sindhu led with a slender 11-10 lead. After the interval, it was a closely fought affair as both players showed resilience before Sindhu held her nerves to win with 22-20 scoreline.
Sindhu outplayed her opponent in the 2nd game keeping Burah under pressure right from word go maintaining 11-3 lead at the break. After the mid-game interval, Sindhu looked in ominous touch keeping Burah struggling to win with 21-12 scoreline. She will face Chen S y of Chinese Taipei.
Tanvi Sharma produced a dominating performance with straight game win over Indian counterpart Malvika Bansod. Bansod started the match off brightly before Tanvi showed great spark keeping the opponent under pressure. It was a dominating performance by Tanvi winning first game comfortably by 21-13.
The second game started with both players fighting for each point before Tanvi put on a dominating display keeping Bansod under pressure winning with 21-15 scoreline and move into the quarterfinals. She will face a stern challenge of top seeded Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.
The men’s doubles pairing of MR Arjun and Amsakarunan defeated M Owen and Soedjsda of Australia in two straight games. Arjun & Amsakarunan started on bright note before Australian pairing showed some fight. At the mid-game break, Indian pairing took a slender 11-10 lead. After the interval, both players fought for each point before Arjun and Amsakarunan took points in succession to win with 21-17 scoreline.
The Indian pairing outplayed their opponents right from word go in the 2nd game putting on dominating display to win with 21-7 scoreline. It was a good effort with 2nd successive quarterfinals appearance. They will face Chen C-k/Liu K-h of Chinese Taipei.
Tanya Hemanth put on spirited performance against 2nd seeded Pornpawee Chocuwong of Thailand losing in two straight games. Tanya showed some fight in the initial stages of the first game before Chocuwong produced a dominating performance with 11-8 lead at the break. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as the Thai player won comfortably by 21-13.
The second game saw Tanya Hemanth showing fighting spirit keeping Chocuwong with lovely shots giving some scare. At the mid-game break, Tanya had a decent 11-7 lead. After the interval, Chocuwong fought back strongly with attacking shots and making life tough for Tanya. It was an impressive performance by Thai player winning with 21-15 scoreline.
The mixed doubles of Dhruv and Maneesha went down fighting to A Koga and N Saito of Japan in two straight games. Both pairs fought for each point in the first game before Koga and Saito held their nerves to win with 21-19 scoreline.
Dhruv and Maneesha showed fight in the 2nd game also keeping the Japanese pair under pressure. The lack of experience costed Indian pairing losing by 18-21.
