Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 2 Schedule: India Eye Strong Performances Across Six Sports in Glasgow

India will compete in bowls, boxing, swimming, para swimming, artistic gymnastics and para powerlifting on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2026.
After an encouraging opening day that saw India begin its campaign with positive results in lawn bowls, the Indian contingent returns to action on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with athletes competing across six different sports.
Indian athletes will be seen in bowls, artistic gymnastics, boxing, swimming, paraswimming and para powerlifting, with several competitors looking to make deep runs in their respective events. While lawn bowls will continue its sectional phase, swimmers will aim to progress into the evening sessions, and boxer Jadumani Singh will begin his campaign in the men's 55kg category.
The day also marks the first appearance for India's artistic gymnastics men's team, while para powerlifting gets underway with six Indian lifters in action.
India's lawn bowls team enjoyed a positive start to the competition and will look to build on that momentum on Day 2. In the women's pairs competition, Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki will face a strong South African pairing of Thabelo Muvhango and Jacqui Janse van Rensburg in their second sectional match.
The duo impressed on the opening day, and another victory would significantly strengthen their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds.
Later in the evening, Putul Sonowal returns to the greens for her second women's singles sectional match against Cecil Alexander of the Falkland Islands. Having already produced one of India's biggest upsets by defeating reigning World Outdoor Champion Ryan Bester on the opening day, Putul will be aiming to maintain her unbeaten start.
India's men's artistic gymnastics team begins its Commonwealth Games campaign with the team final and individual qualification events. The quartet of Tapeswaranath Das, Swathish Kaitheri Puthalath, Tapan Mohanty, and Yogeshwar Singh will compete across all apparatus as they look to secure places in the individual event finals while also challenging in the team standings.
The Commonwealth Games provide an important opportunity for Indian gymnasts to compete against some of the world's strongest Commonwealth nations, including England, Canada, Australia and Scotland.
Jadumani Singh Opens India's Boxing Campaign
India's boxing campaign begins late in the evening with Jadumani Singh Mandengbam taking on Scotland's Aaron Cullen in the men's 55kg Round of 32. Boxing has traditionally been one of India's strongest sports at the Commonwealth Games, consistently producing medals across multiple editions. Jadumani will look to give India a winning start inside the ring and book his place in the next round.
Facing a Scottish boxer on home soil presents its own challenges, but the Indian boxer will be confident of progressing.
Swimming and para swimming will once again keep Indian fans engaged throughout the afternoon and late evening. The first Indian in action will be R.V.V.B.K. Budigina, competing in the men's 100m freestyle S13 heats. A strong performance would secure him a place in the final scheduled later in the night.
India's leading swimmer Srihari Nataraj then takes to the pool in the men's 50m backstroke heats. One of India's premier backstroke specialists, Srihari will be targeting qualification for the semifinals before setting his sights on a place in the medal race.

If both swimmers successfully qualify from their heats, India could have representation in two evening sessions, adding further excitement to Day 2.
India's para powerlifting team begins its campaign with six athletes competing across four events. The action starts with Ashok and Parmjeet Kumar in the men's lightweight competition before Jaspreet Kaur and Suman Devi take part in the women's lightweight category. Later in the evening, Kasthuri Rajamani competes in the women's heavyweight event.
The day's schedule concludes after midnight with Jhandu Kumar and Sudhir contesting the men's heavyweight competition. Para powerlifting has emerged as one of India's consistent medal-producing disciplines at major international events, and the contingent will be aiming to make a strong start.
A Packed Day Ahead for India
With athletes spread across multiple venues throughout Glasgow, Day 2 promises to be one of the busiest days of India's Commonwealth Games campaign so far.
From lawn bowls and boxing to swimming and para powerlifting, several Indian athletes will be looking to move closer to medal contention, while others begin their journeys in the competition.
As the Games gather momentum, consistent performances across disciplines will be crucial in helping India build confidence and climb the medals table.
