Sakshi Chaudhary defeated Northern Ireland's Caitlyn Fryers by unanimous decision to reach the Commonwealth Games 2026 boxing semifinals and secure a medal.

India's Sakshi Chaudhary continued the country's impressive run in boxing at the Commonwealth Games 2026, producing a commanding display to defeat Northern Ireland's Caitlyn Fryers by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women's 51 kg quarterfinals

The victory secured Sakshi a place in the semifinals, guaranteeing India yet another boxing medal while keeping her hopes of Commonwealth Games gold firmly alive.

The young Indian boxer combined intelligent movement, accurate punching and tactical discipline to outclass her aggressive opponent across all three rounds. Although Fryers attempted to dictate the pace with relentless attacks, Sakshi's superior ring craft ensured she remained in control throughout the contest.

The victory also set up a semifinal clash against Canada's Amber-Jane Wall, who had earlier booked her own place in the last four.

Sakshi entered the quarterfinal carrying plenty of confidence. She had begun her Commonwealth Games campaign with a convincing victory over Botswana's Lethabo Modukanele, while her preparations for the Games included impressive wins over accomplished Indian boxers Nikhat Zareen and Minakshi Hooda during the selection trials after moving into the 51kg category.

Those performances had established her as one of India's strongest medal contenders, and she wasted little time reinforcing that status against Fryers. The Northern Irish boxer adopted an aggressive approach from the opening bell, looking to unsettle the Indian with constant forward pressure and powerful punches.

However, Sakshi never appeared rattled.

The contest began at a frantic pace. Fryers immediately looked to close the distance, forcing several early clinches that required repeated intervention from the referee during the opening thirty seconds. The aggressive tactics were designed to prevent Sakshi from settling into her rhythm. Instead of engaging in unnecessary exchanges, the Indian relied on movement.

She circled intelligently around the ring, patiently waiting for openings before responding with clean scoring punches. One particularly powerful right hand to Fryers' head drew loud reactions from the spectators and highlighted the precision of Sakshi's attack.

Although the opening round contained several scrappy exchanges, the judges clearly preferred the Indian's cleaner work. All five officials awarded the first round to Sakshi, giving her an important early advantage.

The second round followed a similar pattern, but Sakshi increasingly asserted her authority. Fryers continued pushing forward with probing left hooks and body attacks, yet struggled to land consistently against the Indian's excellent footwork. Rather than standing and trading punches, Sakshi repeatedly stepped backwards at precisely the right moments before countering with quick one-two combinations.

Her movement frustrated the Northern Irish boxer, who found it increasingly difficult to establish any sustained rhythm. Midway through the round, both fighters briefly lost their balance during an exchange and tumbled to the canvas before quickly returning to their feet. Shortly afterwards, Sakshi received a warning from the referee, resulting in a point deduction.

Despite the setback, the Indian remained composed.

She continued boxing with patience and discipline, refusing to alter the tactical approach that had already proven successful. The judges once again unanimously awarded the round to Sakshi, placing her firmly in control heading into the final three minutes.

Knowing she held a comfortable advantage on the scorecards, Sakshi approached the final round with maturity. There was no need to chase a knockout.

Instead, she focused on maintaining distance, avoiding unnecessary risks and landing clean scoring punches whenever opportunities emerged. Her footwork became one of the defining features of the contest. Constantly bouncing around the ring, Sakshi made it extremely difficult for Fryers to connect with meaningful attacks.

The Indian's mobility drew comparisons to former Commonwealth Games champion Nikhat Zareen, whose movement and tactical intelligence have long been hallmarks of her success.

While Fryers continued pressing forward, she struggled to break through Sakshi's disciplined defence. The Indian remained fresh throughout the contest, showing little sign of fatigue while continuing to find the target with accurate punches. By the time the final bell sounded, there was little doubt regarding the outcome.

The judges confirmed what had become increasingly evident over the course of the bout. Sakshi was declared the winner by a unanimous 5-0 decision, completing one of India's most convincing victories of the boxing competition. Having won every round on all five scorecards, she advanced comfortably into the semifinals and guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal.

More importantly, the performance suggested she possesses the qualities needed to challenge for an even higher finish. Her combination of composure, ring awareness and technical execution made her one of the standout performers of the day.

Sakshi's victory adds to an increasingly successful Commonwealth Games campaign for the Indian boxing team. With multiple boxers reaching the semifinal stage across different weight divisions, India has once again demonstrated the remarkable depth within its boxing programme. The consistent performances reflect years of investment in athlete development, coaching and international exposure.

For Sakshi, the quarterfinal victory represents another important step in what has already been an impressive rise through Indian boxing. Her ability to adapt tactically while remaining calm under pressure highlights a maturity that belies her age.

Sakshi will next face Amber-Jane Wall of Canada for a place in the gold medal bout. The semifinal promises to present a tougher challenge, with Wall entering the contest after her own impressive quarterfinal victory. However, Sakshi's performance against Fryers provides every reason for optimism.

She successfully neutralised an aggressive opponent through intelligent movement, controlled the pace of the contest and consistently impressed the judges with cleaner, more effective boxing. Those qualities will be equally important in the semifinals.

With a Commonwealth Games medal already secured, Sakshi Chaudhary can now focus entirely on chasing gold. Her dominant display against Caitlyn Fryers showcased not only her technical quality but also her tactical maturity and confidence inside the ring. If she can maintain the same composure and precision against Amber-Jane Wall, the young Indian boxer will have an excellent opportunity to book her place in the Commonwealth Games final and move one step closer to the biggest achievement of her career.
