Diamond Harbour FC continued to assert their authority at the top of the Star Cement Indian Football League 2025–26, registering a controlled 2-0 victory over Chanmari FC in Aizawl.

In a match that demanded patience and tactical discipline, the league leaders once again demonstrated why they have emerged as the most consistent side this season. The result takes Diamond Harbour to 25 points from 10 matches, strengthening their grip on the summit, while Chanmari remain fifth with 11 points, struggling to convert promising phases into results during the Championship phase.

The contest began cautiously, with both teams prioritising defensive shape over attacking risk. Much of the early exchanges unfolded in midfield, where space was limited and possession frequently contested. Chanmari looked to inject pace through their forward line, with Jota and KC Malsawmsanga attempting to stretch the opposition defence. Diamond Harbour, in contrast, adopted a more measured approach, building patiently and waiting for openings on the transition.

The first significant chance of the match fell to the visitors midway through the opening half. Luka Majcen was released down the left flank and delivered a precise ball into the box for Antonio Moyano. The Spaniard turned sharply and struck a powerful effort that forced a strong save from goalkeeper Zothanmawia. The rebound fell to Paul Ramfangzauva, but his follow-up attempt drifted wide, allowing Chanmari to escape. Despite the lack of clear chances, Diamond Harbour maintained composure and gradually began to impose themselves. Their breakthrough arrived in the 35th minute, and it came through individual quality. Moyano received the ball at the edge of the box, manoeuvred past multiple defenders, and unleashed a powerful strike that ricocheted off the post before finding the net. It was a goal that reflected both technical skill and decisiveness, giving the visitors a deserved lead.

Chanmari responded with intent, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. However, their approach lacked precision in the final third. Attempts from Malsawmsanga, Pepe, and Lalruatsanga were either from distance or poorly executed, failing to trouble Diamond Harbour goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh. The home side’s inability to convert attacking momentum into clear chances meant that the visitors carried a 1-0 advantage into the break. The second half followed a familiar pattern. Chanmari started brightly, showing greater urgency and attempting to increase the tempo. Malsawmsanga remained a constant threat with his pace, testing Dheeraj with a low drive across goal that required a sharp fingertip save. It was one of the few moments where the home side came close to breaking through.

Diamond Harbour, however, remained composed and tactically disciplined. Rather than engaging in an open contest, they focused on controlling possession and slowing the rhythm of the game. Their defensive structure limited Chanmari’s ability to create high-quality chances, forcing the hosts into speculative efforts. At the other end, the visitors continued to pose a threat, particularly from set-pieces. Around the hour mark, Melroy Assisi came close to doubling the lead with a header, but Zothanmawia produced an acrobatic save to keep his side in the contest. Despite this, the overall balance of play suggested that Diamond Harbour were in control.

As the match progressed into its final stages, Chanmari pushed forward in greater numbers, leaving spaces at the back. Diamond Harbour capitalised on this in the 87th minute to seal the result. A well-delivered cross from Bryce Miranda found substitute R. Ramdinthara at the far post, and the forward made no mistake, heading home to secure a two-goal cushion. The late goal effectively ended the contest, allowing Diamond Harbour to manage the closing minutes with ease. Chanmari attempted to respond, but the visitors’ defensive organisation ensured that there were no further threats on goal.

While the scoreline suggests a comfortable victory, the performance was built on control rather than dominance. Diamond Harbour did not overwhelm their opponents but executed their game plan efficiently, taking their chances and maintaining defensive solidity. The clean sheet, only their second of the season, will also be a significant positive. For Chanmari, the match highlighted recurring issues. Despite showing energy and intent, the lack of composure and decision-making in the final third continues to hinder their progress. Against a side as organised as Diamond Harbour, such inefficiencies are often decisive.

From a broader perspective, this result reinforces Diamond Harbour’s credentials as genuine title contenders. Their ability to win matches without necessarily playing at their peak level is a hallmark of strong teams. Consistency, rather than flair, has been the defining feature of their campaign so far.

As the Championship phase intensifies, maintaining this level of control will be crucial. With rivals closing in, every point carries increased significance. For now, Diamond Harbour remain firmly on top, continuing to set the pace in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested title race.
